I grabbed a copy as well, and was similarly pleased to see that price drop...I went to bed last night thinking, damn, I'm going to have to spend nearly $300 tomorrow morning, so to see that reduction was a nice surprise. After finally seeing the details, it looks like it's going to be one helluva package as well.

      Agreed.

Based on the newsletters over the last 6 months or so, I was expecting the book to be around $300.

Pleasantly surprised to see the book at $225.

I wonder if the limitation number was raised.

Isn’t 750 a large limitation for a Centipede Press title?

The last estimate from Jerad was $275, but a final price had yet to be determined. I hope we get it on Sunday

Yeah, 750 is at the top end of their print runs. Typically, they land in the 300-500 range. That's probably why the book hasn't sold out yet.

That limitation may have played into the reduction, not sure. But, yeah, 750 is nudging the top of their limitation. I was hoping for a 500 limitation for no other reason than to make it feel more special/limited, but the more exposure these classic stories get the merrier, I suppose.

I used to be heavily into the pulp-era thing, with nearly as many books *about* the pulp scene as I did the reprint collections themselves. At some point last year, I realized I wasn't really taken by the form anymore -- burn out, I suppose -- and hadn't been for several years, so I ended up selling most of my titles. These new Centipede volumes / series will at some point probably stand as the only pulp representation in my library.

This one is a little out of my reach but your post did lead me to considering picking up Hellstone. I'm probably not a buyer but it's not often I can afford special editions these days and this one is at a price point I can go for. Any nudges, one way or another, for Hellstone?

Man, I haven't had a chance to read it yet, so I can't say as far as story goes. (I think that maybe Sholloman has read it, if I'm not mistaken.) But I can say that, while a more compact trim than other Centipede titles, it has some cool colored stamping on the boards and spine and a surprising amount of art. Thumbing through it makes me want to move it up that TBR pile. It doesn't have the best ratings on Goodreads, if something like that carries any weight.

Mich like yourself, I don't dip my toes too often in the Centipede pool due to their prices, but I did pick-up a copy of Hellstone and have it in my TBR pile. Can't speak to the story itself as I had never heard of it prior to purchase (it does seem to have a good rating on Goodreads). As to what I can speak to, the production is top-notch, the art is great, and the price wasn't too bad; so, I decided to roll the dice.

I never did pick up HELLSTONE because I thought I had it in vintage/original paperback. After I discovered that, in fact, I did not, I meant to pick up the Centipede edition after seeing how replete it was with incredible art...and I don't think I ever did. Need to doublecheck that, and if not, I'll likely pick up a copy...too beautiful to pass up. I've read Spruill before -- some collaborative novel he did with F. Paul Wilson -- but the experience seems to have not made an impact, so I'm going in blind on him.

If you’re OK with an unsigned copy you should check out Ziesing’s website.

They have a lot of unsigned Centipede Press titles at a pretty good discount.

Thank you for all the comments. I'm still pondering. Maybe it will sell-out before I make a decision.

Subterranean included some pictures of Centipede's new Weird Tales book in their newsletter today and it looks fantastic. I can't wait to get this in my hands.

I agree -- I was even more pleased after seeing that dj and slipcase...just beautiful. These'll be the only books in my collection that I'll probably turn the wrong way and let the slipcases face outward...it's going to make for a stunning series on the shelf (and the contents looks even better!).

Yeah, those Subpress pics really got me even more excited for this. In fact, my usual calm, cool patience with waiting for books to arrive is out the window now and I'm a little antsy about not getting a shipping notice from CP on this yet. Sundays newsletter did say "Shipping this week!". Anybody get a shipping notice yet?

I haven’t received mine yet. It’s a big print run, so i’m thinking it’s gonna take a little bit to get them all shipped out. I’m with you, though. The book can’t get here soon enough.
