Okay, you sold me (and, yes, the character(s) motivations issue was the consensus I saw as well, I’ll pick up a copy the next time I hit Costco (I saw it the last I was there…nice that a relatively (but deserving) unknown author was able to break in to their distribution channel).Originally posted by Martin View Post
I did not read any reviews until after I finished the book. The negative reviews I read mentioned characters that they did not believe would act as they did. I honestly did not agree with the reviews I read but I will admit I was reading a ghost story, so I was not looking for realism. I really enjoyed it and know I will be reading it again. I will say that Impossible Fortress is a hard act to follow and if I had to choose between the two, I would put Impossible Fortress on top. I will add with these as his first two books, I will be reading whatever he puts out next!
I will add that as I was reading this book it felt perfect for what Lividian is doing. The trade has interior art that is part of the story, A relatively unknown author and a story that fits in with the current Lividian catalog.

I loved Rekulak's IMPOSSIBLE FORTRESS, but a slew of negative reviews have shied me away from HIDDEN PICTURES. Is it, in fact, a good one?

It would need to use the interior illustrations from the trade edition as they are perfect for the story.

Yep. Although I’m okay with MYSTERY WALK being given the diss…MYSTERY WALK, THE FIVE, and BETHANY’S SIN are my three least favorite of his.Originally posted by joejets View PostMine and Mystery Walk have also never had a limited edition.

I agree -- GONE SOUTH would not only be a great addition to Lividian's growing McCammon backlist, but is greatly deserving of the limited treatment, since it's never had it. I know it received some sporadic criticism when it was released, but I think most have come to recognize its strengths and view it as the fantastic Southern gothic-noir that it is.
