Unfortunately, more realistically, a CD mag complete collection would probably only fetch a couple, maybe few hundred now. I saw one go awhile back for around that. I was surprised as I, too, have a "near" complete collection and was watching. After that I resolved to just keep 'em.
Good to know. The one I was watching just renewed the listing with the same asking price. It’s looking more and more like I’ll be hanging onto these.

That’s what I’m thinking too. Last issue I received with my subscription was #79. Subtract the double issues, I’m guessing there are 76 or 77 physical issues. There are a lot of issues posted on eBay that I consider highly overpriced. I’d expect the entire collection to fetch a grand at least, but who knows. I imagine anyone interested in collecting them probably has most of the catalogue already anyway. I’ll probably wind up hanging onto mine.

I'm watching a compete collection (minus the last 4 or 5 issues) on ebay. Not auction style. They're shooting for $4500 OBO. I can't really see them getting anywhere near that, but you never know. I'm curious to see if someone makes them an offer and what they might get for it. Considering shipping costs and ebay fees, I might wind up keeping mine too. I've got doubles of 75% of the collection. I'll probably start trying to sell some of those for now.
That's insane...they'd be lucky to get a quarter of that. Yes, the first few issues are kind of collectible, but most issues go for ten bucks on a good day, a few a bit more, sure, but a lot a good deal less. I don't know how many issues total CD put out to do the correct math (is it around 75...?), but I can't envision a complete collection going for more than a grand.

Just FYI, but if that eBay seller does accept an offer lower than $4500, it won't show the lower price. It will only show the $4500 with a line through it to show it wasn't sold at that price.

Not only because ultimately I did want to keep them around -- for the non-fiction, if nothing else -- but I knew the shipping charge on the lot was probably going to be a tough obstacle to a sale.

Just got an e-mail from Blu Gilliand saying he was leaving CD online. Probably a huge blow to the site.

No matter the reason I will not pre-order from CD and will not order from CD without going through the normal channels. I checked my records. In 5 days (02/23/2007) my oldest pre-order (Shocklines) will be 19 years old. I am not even sure how many pre-orders I have because I honestly stopped caring. I will eventually get them or I won't. What I will not do is add more to the list.

Perhaps they lost their website developer? I have been a little leery about ordering new items because of that much like yourself; however, I took a chance and placed two separate orders over the last few months, and each item arrived within 2 weeks, had no issues/defects, and had tracking included. That being said, I still miss the way the old website worked and hope they go back to that format at some point too as I am still a bit apprehensive about this new model!
I was aware of the emails saying you had to pay Richard directly for some pre-orders but had not checked on anything. Your post had me go back and look at the website. This statement on the still useless Production Update page: PROBLEM WITH WEBSITE: (2/16/2026) We are sorry for the inconvenience but our order system did an update without testing it that has to do with our communication with USPS. We have been working on this for over a month, beta testing the issues and figuring it out. We are unable to announce anything new on the site during this time as it wouldn’t give you all the option to choose Media Mail or Priority Mail (only Fed Ex and UPS). Until this is resolved, we are having to sell new things the unconventional way you have been seeing per our emails of making payments and sending confirmations. We are sorry for the trouble and confusion.

I tested that just out of curiosity and as of today 02/18 the site will allow me to select USPS options. I will eventually order some 'in stock' items as I still have over $140 credit but will not pre-order anything and will probably not order any books. My assumption was that he was trying to generate cash without the liability appearing on the books, but I have no idea.

Still not my longest backorder with them. That honor goes to Shocklines: Fresh Voices in Terror which I ordered in 2007.

I received my copy a few days ago...I could not remember how long ago I ordered this book, so thanks for the reminder. Stuff like this is why I will no longer pre-order, or order at all, from CD. In fact, why I distrust pre-ordering at all, period. Any other small-press publisher, at least I know that they have a timetable, which is usually fairly short, and they almost always meet that timetable. With CD, it could literally take decades. By the time they publish SHOCKLINES, the "Fresh Voices in Terror" will be getting lifetime achievement awards.
