    Ben,
Sorry about your friend. I have lost several who were on the verge of finally retiring and doing all the things they've wanted to do. We all have to make the most of the moment, share our joy and spread happiness now. I'm sure you have lots of great memories that will comfort you in this difficult time.

Dependent on local laws and ordinances you can have a bee hive.

      Hive Box and Super:

      https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Lang...1067435&sr=8-1

      Bees:

      https://www.kelleybees.com/live-bees.html

And of course you will want a bees suit, smoker, and hive tool...plus a million other things!

It's like book collecting. It never ends.

A nursery near me assists people in setting up Mason Bees. You don't get any honey but they do pollinate and are much lower maintenance, you just have to replace the tubes occasionally.

Pretty cool. Never heard of them before. However me and my wife love pollinators. Honey is certainly a plus but not really our goal. We like an environment which is healthy for our garden and our general area.

The weird thing is that honey bees really are not a hardy bunch. They need a ton of help to thrive.

Only 4 issues left and I have a complete set of Cemetery Dance magazine. I got issue 1 in the mail today. Bad thing is all 4 are in the first 10. One day.

I have Mason bees, they're pretty cool. But one day I would really like to get a hive. Thanks for the info Ben!

Cold and wet weather is starting to roll in here in Washington State, which means my motorcycle-riding season is just about over. Expect me to be more grumpy until April.

My understanding is that the Mason bees we have here are pretty hardy but do better with cooler winters.

Then you will bee even grumpier.

I am loving the cool and wet weather but unfortunately we are supposed to be back in the 80's next week. I am so ready for fall/winter.

Twenty years in Florida. Hate it. Two seasons. Hot as hell and dead.

That is it. However no state income tax...I guess is a bonus.

I actually love the cold, wet, dark, gray, and snowy weather. It makes the spring all the more glorious.

My brief reprieve from Florida, In Germany, reinforced my love of seasons.

I live in Washington which also has no state income tax. My office is in Oregon so unfortunately I normally pay a 9% income tax. This year I am working from home. My employer continues to deduct Oregon taxes but I will get them back next year when I file. I actually started working from home in January so I will only be paying taxes for a few days. I am going to have a shocking refund next year!

I could have hooked you up several years ago when I sold all mine.

Woohoo — my bike gets a reprieve from its inevitable winter hibernation!
