Yep. It's a gorgeous looking book. Typically that style of artwork is not my preference however, for this edition, I like it a lot.

Congrats to all who pick this one up.

Good lord, that Suntup edition of BORN OF… was even better than I’d envisioned -- I snagged a copy immediately. The 100 pages of extra content showcasing the book's development and Matheson's growth is a uniquely insightful addition, it takes his landmark debut volume to a whole new level, and I couldn't be more excited. Even the art's fairly good. Can’t wait to have this in hand…as a Matheson enthusiast, I’m not sure I’ve ever anticipated a Suntup arrival more.

As a fellow Matheson enthusiast, I really want this book, but so far in January we've had Best of Weird Tales: The 1920s at $225, Shadowland by Straub at $295--both of which I purchased--an upcoming, unannounced lettered from Thunderstorm at $300+, Hive by Curran was announced today by Weird House and I was hoping to get this one but looks unlikely, and, finally, this title. I want it all, but something's gotta give. Hive is an easier pass, but still leaves me with around $1000+ of books in January alone. And this a little over three weeks past Christmas. Brutal.

I will say that the lettered Born of... is now a grail of mine. I doubt I'll ever be able to snag one, but how I'd like that on the shelf.

I am also very surprised--yet happy as it helps give me to more time to think--that it hasn't sold out yet. It seems like maybe a little softening of the market is happening because I'd think that this type of genre title from a widely-known and celebrated author produced by a press like Suntup would sell out in 24 hours easy. Yet there are still like a third of the copies available. Maybe everybody's feeling the January pinch like I am.

I think it's what you said - there are a lot of desirable books out right after the holidays, and people can't buy everything! I did go for the AE of the Matheson book, and Shadowland.

I'm kinda hoping that Camelot will have some extra copies available and I can put off the purchase until shipping. Suntup estimates Winter 2025/2026 so that would give me time to scrape the pennies together.

SM and Todd, can't blame you, I know how tough months with more-opportunities-than-budget are. But that said, don't be like me and experience my regret: BORN... is a seminal title (for the Matheson fan, certainly, but I'd argue that Matheson's work, and this debut, had a tremendous impact on the genre and those who followed, e.g. King) in a fantastic reprint package with a relatively low 500-copy limitation. Anecdotally, I sure wish I would’ve snagged an Artist of PSYCHO. Yes, I have the signed and numbered Gauntlet edition and don’t have shelf room for multiple variants of the same book, which is why at the time I skipped it, but, damn, I’ve always regretted it, and it’s only getting worse. Lansdale introduction, *incredible* dustjacket art (with original 1st on the reverse), and I like the interior art. And it’s Bloch. Of course, it’s not one of those Suntup titles that has stumbled in value on the secondary…$225+ these days. So if the budget does somehow allow, do yourself a favor and avoid my Bloch regret.

Everything you said is exactly the reason why I'm trying to figure out how to squeeze this title into the budget. I do have this nagging feeling that not picking it up will end up in some of that regret you discuss. If it makes you feel better, since misery loves company and all, I, too, regret not picking up a copy of PSYCHO...

I can't believe that, as of this writing, all three editions of the Matheson title are still available. Mind-boggling, especially that lettered with the inlaid Matheson signature. I mean, it's $3,500, but I would think that there would be more than enough interest from the "high rollers" to sell out a 26-copy edition. I know that if I had that kinda cash, I would have snatched one up. Still haven't bought any edition at this point...

If a low-limitation Suntup-Matheson team-up can’t sell out with a relative quickness, I think that says a good deal about the state of the market at the moment. These things tend to follow the general economy, so perhaps the economic rebound many folks anticipate this year with the new administration will trickle down to the small press world.

Or maybe it’s more limited to a Suntup issue, for whatever reason. But that certainly seems less likely.
