Two pretty big reveals for Earthling's Modern Classics line this morning: Wanderers by Chuck Wendig and Mine by Robert McCammon. I would love to have both of these on the shelf. I doubt I'll be able to afford them, though. I am, however, looking forward to more information, design reveals, price point, etc.

WANDERERS is the book that turned me off Wendig, after being a pretty big fan of his Miriam Black series, so I won't be going for the bundle. I can only hope there'll be individual/separate copies of MINE leftover after the bundle offering. Really unfortunate the limitation is so low, as I suspect my chances aren't good.

WANDERERS is the book that turned me off Wendig, after being a pretty big fan of his Miriam Black series, so I won't be going for the bundle. I was both happy and sad to see Mine as one of the books as I am a huge Mccammon fan, but I haven't collected the Modern classics series so far due to the cost of the books and having some of them already in other LE formats. Would really love a copy of Mine, especially since it's the only LE version so far but doubt I will be able to swing the cost. Maybe I will be wrong. Have never read Wendig so that part of the announcement fell flat for me.

It's been six, seven years since I read it, so I can't recall with much specificity, but my residual takeaway is it being a bloated bore with characters that felt flat, and there was a certain awkwardness to his allegorical shoehorns. Like King in recent years, his political tantrums on X seemed to glaze the work to a degree as well with a black-and-white paint brush, exacerbating that shallow construct. This in contrast to the Miriam Black series that had great characterization, compelling plots, and tight, terrific pacing. In fairness, I probably should have let that six-volume series that I enjoyed so much be the determinant on future titles rather than WANDERERS (and its unread sequel, WAYWARD) ...he's since had THE BOOK OF ACCIDENTS, BLACK RIVER ORCHARD, and THE STAIRCASE IN THE WOODS, all of which I've since avoided because of my negative experience with WANDERERS, but I got a sense that there had been a paradigm shift in the way he writes his books, and I'm just not on board for it.

Thanks for the explanation...I've read similar sentiments, which have kept me from dipping into his work. I do have BLACK RIVER ORCHARD in my pile, so hopefully I'll get to that someday.
