The biggest issues is that their site took the order and did nothing with it. They still show the lettered being available today even though it's sold out. And that was their big issue, since it was sold out they just ignored the order until she reached out to them. And then didn't seem to care that they'd ignored the order. She didn't send me all the emails but she wasn't happy. And really I can spend my money on other books I want and support other small presses.

That website was an outdated dinosaur decades ago, and doesn't seem to have been upgraded at all since then. Sorry your wife had such a frustrating experience...

Bought direct once went fine but now I will never again. It was for the beardless warriors set. I've gotten rid of a good chunk of my gauntlet titles anyway.

I haven't had any problems with Barry and have always found him pleasant in our few interactions, but the BEARDLESS WARRIORS set was a really unfortunate production. It's the only time in my nearly forty years of collecting that I've returned a purchase to a bookseller (Camelot, who acknowledged its issues and promptly refunded me). A shame, as I had been really excited about that set.

That was a set that I kicked myself for missing, but I could not bring myself to patronize Gauntlet again by that point. Can I ask what the issues were?

I hadn't heard any issues about the Beardless Warriors set. I remember being really excited about when it was announced and was saving up to get the lettered edition, which was announced at $500 and then the price was upped to $1000 after it had been open for preorders for a bit. I don't recall if the reason for this was disclosed, but I remember the move really turning me off on the press.

R.e. the BEARDLESS WARRIORS set, I'm really taxing my memory cells on this one, but I seem to recall that there was something notable promised by the initial promotional materials that was missing in the final product, and the amount of typos was just egregious. There may or may not have been other issues that I can no longer recall, but even if not, those two issues were disappointing to such a degree that I returned the set (and it wasn't cheap, which also entered the equation) to Camelot.

Thanks for the info, Ron. As I said, I was kicking myself for missing out on that set, but the amount of complaints that I remember reading about got me over that pain real quick, lol. I wonder if Barry is reading this thread, because today's newsletter went in-depth on why he does not want customers to pay by CC. I get his point of view, but, as a consumer, I feel that any retailer is lucky to be getting my money, and I don't really care if they are particular HOW they get it...I'll pay how I want, or I'll shop elsewhere. The curmudgeon who owns the comic store I used to shop at had a fit one day when he walked by the register and saw I had been paying with a Discover card, because they charged him some kind of fee related to my reward points. He said "Starting next week, I'm not accepting Discover!" I said "Starting next week, I shop online." He backed off, but we had another blowout a few years later, and I did take my business online...Barry, if you make shopping a hassle for the people who continue to buy your substandard product, they'll eventually either go elsewhere, or stop patronizing you altogether.

I think you're right about your memories - the bonus materials, the contents - weren't delivered as advertised. Right up there with how CD handled the Southern Reach collection where none of the bonus materials were delivered (and we got a very public airing of dirty laundry too.)

Don't know what my last purchase from Gauntlet was (I know I bought the Rambo trilogy but my matching number request was ignored which I still cant tell if I'm mad or not about that.)

Don't even get me started on the Southern Reach Trilogy as I am still sore about that one and the way it was handled!
