Weird to see that the issue that led to me saying "NEVER AGAIN" to Gauntlet Press is still an issue with Barry. Years and years ago, I pre-ordered a copy of their Richard Matheson tribute book, which took forever to be published, and before the book was ready to ship, he sent out a nastygram about canceling your order if your card from your pre-order declined. I sent him an friendly e-mail saying that I ordered so long ago, I forgot which card I used, and I was afraid it might have been one with a new expiration date. He basically told me that it was too much trouble to check, and I would find out if and when I received the book. I don't need to spend a fortune on a book and get attitude from the publisher, especially one with such low quality standards, so that was adios for me. As I said, odd to see that he still has a bug up his ass about this problem.

This a publisher that I will no longer do business with so as much as it interests me it will not be a consideration.Originally posted by Ben Staad View PostThanks for the link. I'm tempted with this one but I'm not a huge fan of this press.
Weird statement from them on payment method as well.
Note: We suggest you use PayPal when ordering this and other Gauntlet titles. We’ve noticed over the past few months that many credit cards have been declined, and the cumbersome process of trying to reach out for updates has resulted in customers missing out on securing their copies of the book ordered. Although we will continue to take credit card orders, we will be giving priority to orders using PayPal. Please reach out with any concerns or questions regarding this matter.

That said, while I love Bradbury and have a full shelf of his work, I don't know that I need early variants of stories I presumably already own in their later (and better?) form and I'm not enough of a critical academic of his work that I need to compare and contrast texts, so we'll see. Nice, though, that this material is finding its way out in the world so those who do enjoy studying his work in a more serious manner can have them as reference.

Just received my copy of F. Paul Wilson's "Lexie", his last book. Very happy to have it but sad that we will be getting no more F. Paul Wilson books in the future! Glad he was able to finish his Repairman Jack series before his illness.

Just received my copy of The Upwelling. The cover artwork looks a bit nicer than the usual Gauntlet clipart. May hold off on reading it until I receive Lexie so that I can read them back-to-back but am not sure as I've been looking forward to reading this one!

Glad to see that the Upwelling is shipping soon! Can't believe The Upwelling & Lexie will be F. Paul Wilson's last books. Makes me sad. Seems like I've been reading Wilson's stuff forever. Don't recall ever reading anything bad by Wilson and his Repaiman Jack stuff makes me insanely happy. I guess all good things come to an end, but it's still bittersweet.

Wilson is a fantastic author. Congrats on the pre-orders and hope Gauntlet does this story right.

Don’t blame you…I’ve been toying with the idea of those two as well. I’ve been a Wilson for…forever, and it seems almost important to get these two as a farewell and thanks for all the wonderful entertainment he’s provided to me over the decades.Originally posted by sholloman81 View PostI broke down and pre-ordered the two F. Paul Wilson LE's (The Upwelling & Lexie) that Gauntlet will be producing in 2025. I'm a huge F. Paul Wilson fan and just couldn't resist. I know that Gauntlet doesn't produce the most lavish LEs these days, but $60 a piece seemed fair for the price/production, and due to health issues, these may well be the last books that Wilson ever publishes. Glad we will be getting them but very bittersweet.

Congrats. It's always a good feeling completing a collecting goal.

I also have a few of Gauntlet's other Bradbury titles -- MASKS, MATCH TO FLAME, and maybe one of two others -- but it was that set of four that I've been really looking forward to completing.

Best of success with your Matheson and Ketchum quests.Originally posted by Sock Monkey View Post
Congratulations! That's a nice set. It must be nice to have it finally on the shelf. I'd love to have more Bradbury on my shelf. I only have Centipede's Something Wicked This Way Comes, though it is one of the few (how many, I have no idea) that have the attached Bradbury-signed bookplate.
I'm working on something similar with Gauntlet's Matheson titles, though I'm focusing on the lettered editions and, as of right now, I'm trying to make it a matching lettered set (UU), but we'll see if I stick to that. I've put this on the backburner the last few years, choosing to focus on expanding my Centipede and Thunderstorm collections. However, one of the things I'm thinking of shifting moving in my collecting habits is focusing less on trying to keep up on new stuff and more trying to track down past publications on the aftermarket. I've been running at about 90-95% new and the rest older stuff, but I want to balance this out more. Putting tracking down the Matheson lettereds would help with this. I also would like to track down all of Gauntlet's lettered editions of their Jack Ketchum books.
I know exactly what you mean…I’m starting to gather up the S/Ls of the NIGHT VISIONS volumes of decades ago to upgrade my trade HCs. Call me a curmudgeon, but there’s a charm, an appeal, a nostalgic lure to titles from the ‘90s and ‘00s that much of the more contemporary just doesn’t have. With perhaps a few exceptions, 2025 will be for me, like you, mostly Centipedes and the upgrades and series fill-ins of the Good Old Stuff.
