Yep. I saw that one about Boars Head. I love their products, even at their price point, but that recall certainly is giving me pause.

Feeling better today. Still have a headache and just feel run down. Seems like I'm on the mend.

It's scary to think about how little of our food the USDA checks and how little power they wield to enforce issues when they happen.

Curious if anyone will be doing the CDCC for next year. I was going to be a pass for sure, but the line in today's email "With our acclaimed Limited Edition line picking up production for our biggest year ever" has me considering it as the savings would be quite good. I'm just worried there won't be that many released/announced. Can only think of two off the top of my head for 2024. Still considering...

I'm passing, because they still owe me a bunch of the exclusive books from previous clubs, and also because I hear that "Books are rolling at the printer's now!" jazz every year, and it seems that they produce less and less each time.

Yeah, that's kind of my worry. Without being assured of at least a handful of new LE's being announced/produced in 2025 (not counting already announced titles such as the S.King Doubleday books), I really have no interest, as I don't do paperback or eBooks at all. So for me, right now CDCC 2025 feels like it would be a complete roll of the dice, and I'm not sure that I'm willing to gamble, even at a good price point.

I think it would all depend on the price. Did they offer a CDCC 25 yet or are you speculating? I'm not on their mailing list anymore.

I received an e-mail earlier today, but I deleted it without seeing what the price was.

I'm not signing up for anything until I get the backlog of books they owe me. I have orders going back to at least 2010.

I agree that the "Books are rolling at the printer's" or "Looks like our biggest year yet!" is par for the course for the CDCC announcement. I'm not trying to phrase that in a negative way, but more factual and that I wouldn't base my decision to join solely on that line alone. I do hope that they 2025 is the year that the limited edition line takes off again in force, but joining the CDCC is always kind of a "roll of the dice" in regards to hoping that enough stuff will be published that one is interested in to warrant the cost of membership. Though the credit offer this year is nice...but still contingent that CD will be offering items one would like to buy.

I believe the price was $99. They'd be sending two $100 gift certs as a part of the deal which would more than cover the purchase price if I use them. My worry is that I will have nothing to use them on if they don't announce/produce some new LE's in 2025 as I do not purchase paperback and eBooks. Without more info on their 2025 plans, it just feels like a risky purchase for me, but maybe I'll cave as I guess I could use them on slipcases if I had to, but that isn't very exciting to me tbh.

Thanks. Do they typically exclude using the certificates for SK related items?

I've never been a part of the CDCC; so, I'm not 100% sure, but in the email, it states that the two $100 credits can be used "on anything you want on our online store".

Things have changed over the years, but traditionally there has not been any limitations on King items that I recall. However, there has been a shift towards items being offered via email with Venmo or PayPal as required payment which cuts off the ability to use credit towards those items. I'm not saying that new books would be offered this way. I'm just saying that there is a fluidity to the CD's business dynamics so I wouldn't bank on something without getting confirmation from CD first, especially if that is the PRIMARY reason for joining the CDCC.

Either way I'm not a player in this. Every time these discussions come up it makes me feel a little sad. My first introduction to small press was Grant however that was quickly followed by Cemetery Dance. I spent many happy years snapping up new CD HC's.

With the rise in price across the market I quickly discovered I couldn't randomly keep buying. Then the delay's occurred, followed by the collapse of another publisher, and I've just lost all desire to spend my money on unknowns.

I relate to your comments about the rise price across the market. I am seriously having to reconsider my approach moving forward starting in January. Before it was the occasional limited that broke $100 and lettereds hovered around the $200-300 mark. Now, its $100 is the norm and anything less is perceived as a "bargain" and lettered editions are $500+. I know that some of this has been demand from customers requesting a higher quality product and I do love some aspects of this. However, it makes it harder and harder to pull the trigger. This whole year I've know that this decision has been looming on the horizon, but now I'm getting to the point where significant choices are going to have to be made.
