Started on The Alchemist (graphic novel) today. First time reading it. Coelho was very pleased with the graphic novel and has said that it does the original story justice.

I hope you have The Regulators to read right after it; taken together, the two are a lot of fun.Originally posted by subie09lega View PostI'm a few years behind and started reading Desperation, about 100 pages in now. Very curious how this is going to end."I'm a vegan. "

They both relate the same story, but the characters have different personalities and take different actions in each story. They are supposed to take place in two different realities. I found neither one completely satisfying, but together, they're a hoot!"I'm a vegan. "

Good to know, I was going to take a break between them as I heard they have the same characters in completely different roles (including age differences) which might cause my aging brain to become confused but now my interest is piqued.Originally posted by srboone View PostThey both relate the same story, but the characters have different personalities and take different actions in each story. My friend told me she read it (I don't recall if she finished it), meaning Desperation. She just said that it was so depressing she hasn't read anything else by King. I must be sick because her comments made me want to read it. So your comment makes me think that The Regulators is more depressing...?

I've never read a book by King/Bachman I would call depressing, so I don't know how to answer that. But the D and TR are definitley at opposite ends of the pole. D has sympathetic characters that fall under the influence of forces beyond their control and TR has shockingly unlikeable characters falling under the same influence, theoretically simutaneously. It was an experiment utilizing his newly-minted ideas about the Dark Tower universe. I thought it was pretty good, taken as a whole."I'm a vegan. "

Children of Cthulhu, nice short story collection by various authors, anyone else find Poppy Brite irritating
Pickmans Motel, total drivel, complete rubbish. I can not believe Delirium would publish this sophomoric trash.
I'm no prude and have always eagerly delved into fringe material and take delight in things that would make others squeamish. If collecting is an illness, I must be terminal

No Children of Cthulhu has 23 contributers only the one by Poppy irritated me and frankly was a stretch material wise to be in hereOriginally posted by srboone View PostShould the anthology be avoided?

Pickmans Motel is extremely small, half the size of a chapbook height wise. Its supposed to be humorous and risque, three stories, one is a pastiche of the Flintstones. It reads like a thirteen year old writing soft porn. Of course this is only my opinion.

I think that my friend is more fond of Pride & Prejudice than horror/suspense/thriller. As I was reading Desperation I could see why she didn't like it based on the other books she reads and likes.Originally posted by srboone View PostI've never read a book by King/Bachman I would call depressing, so I don't know how to answer that.
