I grabbed a copy of this after seeing your tweet. It's not what I expected, which is 100% no me because it's exactly what the description says.Originally posted by RonClinton View PostPretty cool $6 (!!!) tpb for those interested in vintage(ish) paperback horror:

Regardless, a very neat little book.

Whenever I handle this thing, I'm so pleased that I have a copy of it. I mean, Kolchak + Matheson = cool x 1000.

Yeah, it’s a great book. I have a couple-dozen nonfiction books that explore the pulp era, and this is one of my favorites.Originally posted by Martin View PostLove the cover on that book!Twitter: https://twitter.com/ron_clinton

I haven't run across much analysis of that particular pulp niche, but I do have one that might be along the line of what you're looking for...Originally posted by c marvel View PostI would love to find a book devoted to (that chronicles) the history of the old men's magazines like Wink (the pre-Playboy era) if you know what I mean.

UNCOVERED, The Hidden Art of the Girlie Pulps, by Douglas Ellis. Adventure House, 2003, oversized HC. It's a fantastic collection, though text/history does take a fairly sizeable backseat to the full-color art...not a bad thing and there is some history included, but do be aware it's more an art book than a history analysis of this pulp niche.

I once had a small book focusing on the work of one artist from that general era which I enjoyed, but I did not keep that book. Thanks for posting this Ron--I really do appreciate it, I am looking for something more history oriented. I'm not surprised there appears on the surface to not be much printed history about these magazines. Speaking of pulps, if you haven't seen it, the Pulp Magazine Archive on Archive.org has scans of over 11,000 pulp-era magazines.
