SubPress has definitely been creeping up in costs lately. SST is still the most bang for my buck of the books I've bought.
One great thing about SubPress for me has been the last few books I've ordered were already in stock at the time of the annoucement - no waiting months (years? decades?) for a book.
However, I have begun rethinking some of the authors I've been buying - do I really need those signed editions for some of this stuff?

This is how I've been feeling a lot lately.Originally posted by sholloman81 View PostJust saw the SubPress newsletter this morning. Boy am I glad that I don't collect Fonda Lee's "Jade" series of books. The pre-order for the LE of the latest book in the series is $275. To me, considering the overall print run, that it doesn't include a slipcase, and the production values being offered, that's flat out ridiculous. I could buy two Suntup AGE books for that same price and the production values of any one of those AGE books tops what's being offered by SubPress for any of their Jade books not to mention that it would also include a slipcase. I know prices have gone up in the collecting world recently but this one feels like a money grab to me. That being said, I'm sure that the book will sell out for SubPress and that others who collect the series will be happy to have it.

All of this sums it up for me as well. I’m still a little on the fence, but I don’t know if I’ll pull that trigger. This is compounded when considering the Sub Press limited of Straub’s last book, which I really want but am having a hard time swallowing the price point. Too many books at too high prices make my purchases become very small.Originally posted by sholloman81 View PostJust saw the SubPress newsletter. Man, that upcoming pre-order for Jeff Vandermeer's Absolution looks sweet but the price sure does suck! With tax and shipping, it's going to be over 200 for the LE. Not sure if I'm going to pull the trigger or not. Also wish SubPress had done the Southern Reach Trilogy instead of CD for the matching set (and because CD's version was such a letdown). Hopefully, I can stay strong and my FOMO won't kick-in!

Sweet! It's always nice when a publisher is able to do that for their customers. I've had nothing but great experiences when ordering with SubPress. I currently have my eyes on their new C. Robert Cargill novella as well as their new Caitlin Kiernan collection but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Hoping to order them soon!Originally posted by Martin View PostI have a bit of praise for Subterranean Press. I generally avoid ordering signed trade books from small presses as I have heard horror stories about the time it can take to get the book in hand. I decided to break my rule for the latest TOR release from John Scalzi. I decided I would order the signed book and be content with the first read being via Audible only. Well, the book was scheduled for release this last Tuesday and I received a shipping notice last week. Well they managed to get it to me on release day! I am not thoroughly enjoying reading about the time the moon turned to cheese! Love Scalzi's writing and 'WHEN THE MOON HITS YOUR EYE' is another fun read!

Oh, you bet, I haunted that place for years, though was able to get through it with only a few purchases (and one sale). I could feel my restraint starting to crack and weaken, though, and the normalizing of concepts like low four-figure watches as being barely acceptable as daily beaters. That was when I knew that particular sandbox wasn't one I should play in, that it'd turn to quicksand someday and suck me in, leaving an Omega on my wrist at some point. Between expensive books, motorcycles, and watches, some hobby had to give. So I stopped visiting WatchUSeek and Watch Recon cold turkey and have been pretty good about staying away.Originally posted by Dave1442397 View Post
Thanks! Keep an eye on Watch Recon - they pull in listings from various sites and you can usually find watches at lower prices than ebay or Chrono24. It's like crack, though...I find so many watches I never knew about, but now I want them

That's wild that it's Hamilton; I didn't know they did tie-in watches like that. Congrats on the acquisition.
I've been lusting after a particular one of their Jazzmaster Chronograph Automatics for some time, hope to someday scratch that itch.

Yes, $2500 MSRP from Hamilton, but you can pick one up for less on the secondary market. It's actually very well made, with a nice beveled sapphire crystal, and comes in a nice display case.

Thanks for the clarification/confirmation. From the pictures, it looks like a beautiful watch. No doubt it looks even better in person. I have a nephew who’s into watch culture and has taking me browsing with him and I had a lot more appreciation for high-end watches than before. There is a level of craftsmanship that can be very beautiful.Originally posted by Dave1442397 View Post

Congratulations again on the watch. It’s hecka cool and I’m sure as a Dune fan it’s nice to have a high quality watch that also incorporates the love for the book. Thanks for sharing!

Okay, that is a pretty cool watch! I'm not trying to be uncouth talking about price but not being into watch culture I'm unable to ascertain the veracity of the information I've seen looking into the watch after your post. Are the prices I'm seeing online correct in that it runs somewhere between $1800 to $2500?

The three Dune books in one year just might break me. I'm considering getting off that train.
