No worries, Brian, it's all on my end. And, yes, we did, and I do vaguely remember you tried some solutions that seemed to work, so that was probably me. It seems to go in ebbs and flows, no idea why. I'm about ready to ditch my long-term email, anyhow, and move to a Gmail account...Gmail addresses, I hear, tend to play well with others, unlike my current ISP.Twitter: https://twitter.com/ron_clinton

Technology is great when it works! I don't know enough to be useful but sometimes I think I know enough to be dangerous to myself and my site, etc.Originally posted by RonClinton View Post

I just spent an hour trying to fix a CSS problem... at least I think that's what it was!

For those still on Facebook, I just want to make sure you all know about the Lividian Facebook group in case anything ever happens to this discussion thread here. I don't run the Facebook group but I do try to answer questions when I can:

I don't want to say that's ominous. But my life seems to be packed full of times I'm saying the things I don't want to say.Originally posted by Brian James Freeman View PostFor those still on Facebook, I just want to make sure you all know about the Lividian Facebook group in case anything ever happens to this discussion thread here. There's a good chance this forum is going away because it's become a security headache for the freelancer who fixes website problems for CD, that's all. It gets very little traffic, so the easiest answer is saying goodbye. Just a gut feeling from talking to Dan Franklin last week.Originally posted by jeffingoff View PostI don't want to say that's ominous. That's too bad, because if the forum goes, that'll also take away my last shred of goodwill towards CD, which has become, frankly, a VERY annoying system for bombarding me with Richard Chizmar e-mails every day, to say nothing of the fact that they owe me a shitload of books, some decades (!!!) overdue. I'd cancel all of my ancient orders, for sure.Originally posted by Brian James Freeman View Post

It does feel like the Sword of Damocles has been hanging over all our heads for some time, and it would be a shame if it finally fell. It's a small but dedicated membership we have here, and if CD would promote / mention it from time to time in their many emails, perhaps the membership would grow to be much larger than it currently is and it'd become the marketing / social-marketing tool that they probably originally intentioned it to be, though I get Facebook changed the equation. But to just ignore it so no one is aware it exists and then shut it down because activity is low would be ironically disappointing.Originally posted by dannyboy121070 View Post

I agree. I read the endless Chizmar spam, and think "If they promoted the board, and their website, amidst all this garbage, they'd pick up new members." Discussion here prompts book sales, so...why not drum up new members? I feel like CD itself is a dead issue, since it seems to be all Chizmar, all the time now.Originally posted by RonClinton View Post

I hope they give us a heads up as well. I'm not sure that will happen, but think it would respectful to all of us that still meet up on this board and try to foster this small community in whatever ways we can.Originally posted by sholloman81 View PostHopefully, CD will post something to the forum beforehand to let us know if they decide to shut it down as it would be beyond disappointing to just login one day and find it gone. Like mentioned above, it would definitely kill my goodwill toward CD if that were to happen!
I also share a lot of the same sentiments as Ron and dannyboy. I think the success of the forum is linked to both the popularity of CD and the effort CD puts into promoting the forum. I don't wade into these waters often, but I can easily understand the criticisms leveled at CD and Chizmar over the past few years and why, in light of that, people would rather not hang out on a forum sponsored by the press. It's also super low-key here, which I personally love, but it seems the vast majority of people online desire front-row seats to chaos.
The one thing I know for sure is I only post here and on the Thunderstorm clubhouse page. I'd be bummed if this place blinks out of existence.

I could be wrong, too. I just know what the website person was suggesting because it came up in conversation with Dan Franklinabout something else, who is contributing to a secret new book I'm working on for my Patreon supporters. He's someone I text with daily so stuff just gets talked about. The web person's main concern is for the store side of the server and protecting customer data, which I obviously agree is very important. And I don't know enough about anything tech to be talking about this, probably... ha...
I think the general problem is that Dan Hocker and I love old school message boards but no one else at CD is into them. Dan Hocker is onto a new career now and I find myself away from here for weeks at a time because I no longer receive the email notifications of new posts, which is all on me for not investigating harder. I'm sure it can be fixed.
Anyway, I'd better get out of here before I get myself in trouble! Plus... I really need to finish preparing for tomorrow's announcement. Hoping that'll make a few people really happy!

That's such a bummer. It was very kind of CD for hosting it all this time and letting us geek out.Originally posted by Brian James Freeman View Post

Well . . . I think a Lividian Forum (the Lividian Living Room?? Huh? Huh?) would be a fantastic addition to the site and you can be sure you'd start out with a smoldering core of very grateful supporters. Who knows how much heat it could generate?Originally posted by Brian James Freeman View PostI could be wrong, too.
