Hmmm... curious. My email didn't contain any surprises, unless you are referring to some Patreon goodies that are shipping with the chapbook?

And the shipping notification email for the chapbook had a nice little surprise in it!Originally posted by Brian James Freeman View PostI posted some important shipping updates on the Heart-Shaped Box Lettered Edition, the "What's In a Name" chapbook by Bev Vincent, and The King of Shadows Limited Edition:

Okay, you sold me (and, yes, the character(s) motivations issue was the consensus I saw as well, I’ll pick up a copy the next time I hit Costco (I saw it the last I was there…nice that a relatively (but deserving) unknown author was able to break in to their distribution channel).Originally posted by Martin View Post
I did not read any reviews until after I finished the book. The negative reviews I read mentioned characters that they did not believe would act as they did. I honestly did not agree with the reviews I read but I will admit I was reading a ghost story, so I was not looking for realism. I really enjoyed it and know I will be reading it again. I will say that Impossible Fortress is a hard act to follow and if I had to choose between the two, I would put Impossible Fortress on top. I will add with these as his first two books, I will be reading whatever he puts out next!
I will add that as I was reading this book it felt perfect for what Lividian is doing. The trade has interior art that is part of the story, A relatively unknown author and a story that fits in with the current Lividian catalog.
