Oh, you bet I am, Jeff...I missed out on the Suntup edition, and I was not going to miss out on this one. What a delight and relief that another publisher came along to give this special book the deluxe treatment. Ben and I have actually been talking about it a bit on the Random Thoughts thread, and he and I both ordered a copy, and within a day or so already had the shipping confirmation! So it should be mine in two to four weeks...can't wait! I'll be sure to throw some photos up on Twitter of it once I have it in hand.

So how quick do you guys think those mythical signed editions will sell out when they're finally released for sale?

Not sure there will ever be signed copies to sell out of. If that ever does occur they will sell quickly and for a lot of money.

In regards to this release I am very happy about it. This was more in my budget and still looks to be a very nice production. I wish I could have justified the Suntup purchase but it just wasn't in the cards at that time.

Instantly, and I can only hope and pray that I'm one of the lucky ones to snag one. I'm actually a bit surprised they haven't been offered for public sale yet...as his son must now be, what, around 30 years old? For those who don't know the story, the short-and-sweet background is that McCarthy signed a certain number (which now for some reason escapes me...350? 500?) of 1st ed. HC copies of THE ROAD in trust for his son (who McCarthy, an older father of a ten? twelve-year-old at the time, essentially wrote the book for/about), who can sell them at any time of his choosing...a pretty cool trust fund of sorts.

Oh yeah. I had forgot about those books. If they haven't showed up yet I'm surprised if they ever will.

Is the Folio edition worth a hundred dollars?

Not sure about "the Folks" edition, but the Folio Society edition is likely worth it.

If there any other titles you've been eyeballing, you can get $30 off of $300! ;-)

I think they are a little overpriced but they are still nice editions. Hard for me to be a fair judge of things though as I'm a cheap SOB.

Agreed, and the $20 overseas shipping (UK to US) doesn’t help matters. But for a book this important to me, it was well worth it. For my earlier order of TRUE GRIT....mmm, maybe.

Now that FS orders require sales tax here in AZ, along with the nice markup they give themselves on the exchange rate it's becoming rather expensive to place an order with them. I really wish they'd at least toss us a bone and let us pay in pounds - would come close to offsetting the sales tax anyway.

On a tangentially related topic, I’ve always had a real affinity for the art design used for the UK 1st hardcover. Not sure why, really, but I think it really speaks to the stark desolation much better than the total black of the US 1st HC. Pic of my copy here:

All in I spent $82.95 for this book. I don't think that is crazy priced but I would have felt better if it were a bit less. RonClinton I liked my copy of True Grit but like you said they are a bit pricey. But if you consider what plain old new HC's are going for these days it's not an awful deal.
