Received my copy of GONE GIRL today, and I have to say this is one of the few CD productions that has disappointed me. While the binding is attractive and the endpapers gorgeous, three problems are immediately evident. One, the slipcase is far too tight...the book has to be worked to remove from and insert into the slipcase, so unless I want the top and bottoms of the boards to wear, its removal will have to be minimal. Two, the silver stamping on the spine is very poorly done, exhibiting a consistent crackling and bleedthrough of the black spine beneath, not sharp and thick as shown in the images earlier in this thread. And, three, the paper stock weight used is somewhat thin and transparent, so that the text from the page beneath can be kind of seen through the page preceding it, much like what ones sees from a cheap bookclub edition, not a high-quality small-press release. My expectations may have been a bit high on this one, perhaps, given the price point, but even as a standard CD release, it feels unfortunately like it fell short of the bar.
I post not to complain -- well, okay, a little, I suppose -- but primarily to alert CD of issues they may want to examine when producing the subsequent Flynn volumes.Twitter: https://twitter.com/ron_clinton

I'll have to ask Dan if he's noticed any stamping issues, but all of the copies I saw looked like the one I photographed a while back. I have heard from a few people that their slipcases were tight, so you may want to ask Dan to send you a different one. They're made by hand and some variations can happen. I'm also not sure what to make of the paper issue. We used the same 60# stock we use for all of our books, with the exception of the King books where we use a custom-milled 80# stock. I don't have a copy of GONE GIRL here at home, so I'll have to compare it to a few others at the office on Monday. I can also email the printer to confirm they used our usual stock and didn't change it for some reason and not inform us!

How about a round of applause for both of these gentleman (Ron and Brian) for the way they conducted themselves on both ends of this subject. Many of us can definitely walk away with a lesson learned here. I know I surely will. Just refer back to my issue with PS of late . Classy, Classy post gentleman! Great job!
