When you publish 20 to 40 books per year, it's easy to fall behind on the traycases if your traycase guy has issues for a while. We have one main guy for the style of traycase we use on the standard Lettered Edition. He fell a few years behind at one point and he's a one man shop, so catching up is very hard to do at this point. We've tried nearly a dozen other people and companies and they haven't delivered the quality we expect. If we only published a few books each year, we never would have fallen behind... but we'd also be a very different company if we only published a few books each year!

I definitely missed that email. Does that mean it was originally listed with a traycase when it went up for pre-order?

Yes, that was before we started switching projects to the new style. If you didn't get the email (or even if you did, for anyone else who is reading this thread!), you can return the books if you don't like the production values. We spent more on upgrading the actual books than the traycases would have cost and we were able to publish the edition 4 to 5 years faster than the old style. So far, the feedback has been great.

I thought for sure they came with traycases. To be honest, I thought all of the CD lettered editions came in traycases.

My mistake, since I'm the one who misread the listing, but at $300 I thought it would have at least had a slipcase.

I know. I think it's a cost thing. I believe they use an international priority envelope.
