I had heard about it but didn't pay much attention but after watching the trailer I'm very interested to see it.
That's exactly where I was -- didn't pay any attention to the project, even though I am a big fan of the Alien movies, and then this trailer hits and I've gotten much more interested!
I read a blurb on Prometheus just now in the KC Star in which Scott said that the killer xenomorph from the first 4 films will not be in his new film--"it survived, and retired to Disneyland." In parenthetical notation, the reporter says it is actually Disney-world Geiger's alien has found a home in. Haven't seen the trailer yet, but I am going to see the movie, probably the day it comes out.
Like many was adopting a wait and see attitude to this. However...having now seen the trailer am very keen. While Ridley Scott has not come out and said it is a prequel to Alien this trailer tells a different story. From the slow reveal of the title through to the same klaxon sound in the background this is very much an Alien film. The challenge now will be to NOT watch anything else about the film before its release so as to not to spoil any surprises!
From everything I've read, this movie is a prequel to Alien, but without the titular aliens. It is more the story of the race of the "Space Jockey" that was found in the ship with the egg pods. Whatever the story, it's Ridley Scott science fiction, and the trailer does look great. I'm excited for it.

Everything so far looks pretty darn good. I hope there isn't a lot of backlash from people who are expecting Alien (whatever # you want to make up) and they get something very different, just in the same universe. Personally, I still don't know what to expect, other than a good movie.
