Now for something totally different...I had the opportunity to attend a screening of The Human Centipede 2 last week. As some may know this little movie is somewhat controversial. Here in Australia it was originally passed by the censors uncut. Following a complaint by people who had not seen it it is now to go back before the censors for review and it is likely that it will either be heavily censored or banned outright. The print we saw was complete and just as the director had intended.
For those who have seen the first movie this is the complete antithesis. Where the first was tagged "100% medically accurate" this one promised to be "100% medically inaccurate". Imagine standing in a room competed sealed, with your eyes closed and a blind fold on. You start to get an idea of how blackly satiric it is. In a Q & A with the star of the movie after the screening (Lawrence Harvey) he stated that it was intended as a dark satire on those in the "horror" community who complained that the first was not gory enough given the premise of making a human centipede. The cinema, which was full, both squirmed and laughed, often at the same time. Vomit bags were handed out before the showing (nice touch). Shot mainly in washed out black and white with little to no dialogue it pulls no punches. While probably not one to put on when the in laws come to visit I rate it pretty high. It achieves exactly what it sets out to do and I (along with every one else in the cinema) had a great time. While not recommended for everyone for those who like this sort of thing I rate it 4/5.

Been wondering about HC2--heard horrendous things about it, sounded pretty good! Never saw the original. Thanks for the review!

Looks like us Aussies won't be able to see this film now. As of today it has been banned outright. Censorship...boo, hiss.

                Sigh...

                Australia was our last hope...

well, maybe it'll remain uncensored in Oompah-Loompah Land or Munchkinland...

And the really dumb thing is I have every intention of purchasing a dvd copy from OS as soon it is released which really makes a mockery of this sort of BS. Let adults make up their own minds and see things as was intended by the artists who made them.
You sort of know what to expect for a movie called Human Centipede and if you don't like it don't watch it.

It's on MOD right now, I need to see if it's the full version--probably have to wait for the Blu-Ray. But thanks again for the personal narrative.

Hope remains alive and kicking - sourced a copy of HC 2 out of the UK for $AU34 (including postage) - censorship be damned !!!!!

I'm trying to find the unedited running time for this movie; reviews give it at 88 minutes, but I can't find out if that is before or after the 2:37 of cuts. I have a list of scenes cut from the movie, so I could watch it on demand and see. Does anyone know?

Finally! I found a review of the UK cut of HC2 and it lists it as 84 minutes. So the 88 minute version is probably the full version. Definitely must check it out.

The Human Centipede: I'm not sure what to make of this movie. It's disgusting, repulsive, nauseating, yet fascinatingly watchable. Writer/Director Tom Six has created an obscene piece of cinematic art here. As ugly and preposterous as his conceit is, he pulls it off with such technical flair that it's difficult to dismiss. Best of all are the sequences with the twisitng corridors of the house that lead nowhere...and everywhere. The poster art has an enticingly out-of-focus picture of a multi-limbed human which led a lot of early viewers to expect a bloody monster movie--which it is not. Is this torture porn?...probably, but not the kind we've become accustomed to: gratuitous, over-the-top violence; shaky hand-cams; and grainy, dingy film. This is restrained torture porn made by a seriously talented filmmaker. But as a horror film, it really delivers.

Obscene art. Watch at your own discretion.
