Thanks, Man. In their defense, as part of the three-minute zoom call mass firing, they DID say that the "partings" were made to ensure sustained profitability over the holiday season, lol. Gotta laugh.
    Unbelievable!

Good luck in your future endeavors, wherever they may lead you.

That sucks dannyboy121070 - I know the pain of pre-Holiday corporate fuckery as well.

Sometimes it's a blessing in disguise, but it still sucks. Sending all the good will I have to you and yours and anxiously awaiting for news of your bounce back.

But thankfully your ex-employer is looking out for their profits! I was worried. /s (sarcastic AF in case that wasn't obvious.)

LOL. As my wife would tell you, sarcasm is my language! I appreciate the humor and the well-wishes! Honestly, as scared as I am about the future and finances, etc., I do feel a load has been taken off me. I was constantly on edge there, and hopefully I'll be able to get unemployment benefits and take a little time to find something better.

In further terrible news: The TCM app, for the first time in, like, a decade, did NOT have my go-to Halloween night movie, CURSE OF THE DEMON! I was heartbroken, as that film has become a Halloween tradition. I recovered by watching BURN, WITCH, BURN, which kind of scratched the same itch a little bit. Fun film, which I recommend, if you haven't seen it.

Any film written by the great Charles Beaumont and Richard Matheson has to be worth watching!

I was informed last week that my job was going to be handled by a combination of AI and "offshore assets" as of November, so, while I'm still working until Halloween, I have been immersing myself into seasonal movies to try to forget my constant, all-consuming anxiety about starvation, homelessness, etc. I have honestly lost track of which films I watched this past week and which ones I watched when I was still gainfully employed, lol. Off the top of my head....

RABID- Nowhere near as good as I was expecting. Marilyn Chambers wasn't bad, and the usual Cronenberg touches were there, but the film didn't do much for me.

TO THE DEVIL...A DAUGHTER- Fun 70s Satanism film, with Richard Widmark going up against Christopher Lee's evil priest. Unfortunately, the creepy puppet-devil-baby was not enough to save the film, which doesn't so much end as just stop,

THE BLACK CAT- More Satanic fun, with Karloff & Lugosi as old enemies who have a final face-off during a black mass. Lugosi is surprisingly sympathetic as the good guy.

HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP- Rapey fish-men run wild in a small seaside town. Good dumb fun.

WEAPONS- I was blown away by this one, which had a twist that is right up my alley. The less you know going in, the better. The end was amazing.

TALES FROM THE CRYPT PRESENTS DEMON KNIGHT- Not as good as I remember it being 30 years ago.

THE DESCENT- Ditto. It seemed much smaller and more set-bound than it did 20 years ago in a theater.

POSSESSION- The MOST overwrought performances that I have ever seen in a film. I'm surprised Isabel Adjani and Sam Neill didn't have heart attacks from all of the overacting on display. A woman drives her spy husband nuts by fucking an octopus. (Yes, there's more to it than that, but that is a fun description.)

We also saw THE LONG WALK a few weeks ago, and my wife and kids and I all loved it. Really well-made, with some characters and moments that have stayed with me in the weeks since I saw it.
I'm so sorry to hear about the callous lay-offs. I've been there many times and I'm actually right there now. I don't know how, but you'll be good. There's another side to the storm and you'll make it through. My thoughts are with you and I'll add the scant good vibes I have to Tim's and it will at least have the calming effect of a tasty margarita. I'm sure. Sorry for the anxious days.

It was a fun film, and the crazy visual effects at the end were worth it by themselves.
