"A blend of science fiction and noir detective fiction, Blade Runner (1982) was a box office and critical bust upon its initial exhibition, but its unique postmodern production design became hugely influential within the sci-fi genre, and the film gained a significant cult following that increased its stature." I'm not an expert, but I've stayed in Holiday Inns many times LOL!!Last edited by mhatchett; 08-22-2018, 07:54 PM.

Finally got around to seeing MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: FALLOUT yesterday. Damn, what a film! I'm not a fan of Tom Cruise, but I have to give the crazy fucker props for all of the insane stunts that he does.
And I watched THE INVITATION on Netflix last night....Solid and well-made, but I saw the ending coming a mile away, so that was kind of disappointing. I'd heard so much hype about the twist, and the last scene.....oh, well. I've seen and read too much, so I hardly ever get surprised anymore. I can call twist endings almost from the opening scene.

I can't stand Cruise, but I've given up on skipping his films. He's crazy, but he appears in a lot of stuff that I want to see, and he usually knows how to pick 'em. (I still hold THE MUMMY against him, though.)
Just as a side question.....Anyone else feel like MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE has passed Bond by as the must-see espionage franchise?

I took my wife and son to see CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER last weekend. It was playing in IMAX 3-D as part of the Marvel Film Festival, and tickets were FIVE BUCKS!! WINTER SOLDIER is one of my top three Marvel films, and I was thrilled to see it on the IMAX screen for the first time. I could watch that film over and over again. My wife loved it, too.
She and I also watched SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT in honor of Burt Reynolds the night he passed away. I had somehow never seen this film before. It was pretty much what I expected.....not great, but you could tell that all involved were having a good time, and that feeling of fun really showed. I did have one great belly laugh, when Burt looks at Sally Fields' legs and says "The last time I saw legs like that, they had a message attached to them."
R.I.P., Burt.
