Rate the Last Movie You Saw

I can say that when I walked out of theater I couldn't decide if I liked it or not. Later I fell into the liked it camp. The movie is definitely stunning to look at though, but I'm not sure how well that holds up on a small screen. I haven't seen it since I saw it in theaters.

I agree with Dan, 2049 is stunning to look at, it's incredibly beautiful. And the 4K BR release is as well. It's amazing a movie so old looks so good. It's on my list but I've not yet re-watched 2049 to see if my opinion of it improves the way that it changed with the first film. But I will say this, I've thought about it from time to time so it did leave an impression which I think indicates it was better than I first thought and deserves a second viewing. I see movies and after I leave the theater have hardly given them another thought even if I liked them. There's just not a lasting impression which has not been the case with 2049.

Finally got around to seeing MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: FALLOUT yesterday. Damn, what a film! I'm not a fan of Tom Cruise, but I have to give the crazy fucker props for all of the insane stunts that he does.
And I watched THE INVITATION on Netflix last night....Solid and well-made, but I saw the ending coming a mile away, so that was kind of disappointing. I'd heard so much hype about the twist, and the last scene.....oh, well. I've seen and read too much, so I hardly ever get surprised anymore. I can call twist endings almost from the opening scene.

Finally got around to seeing MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: FALLOUT yesterday. Damn, what a film! I'm not a fan of Tom Cruise, but I have to give the crazy fucker props for all of the insane stunts that he does.

Just as a side question.....Anyone else feel like MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE has passed Bond by as the must-see espionage franchise?

I think they fill different roles. Mission Impossible is really all about the team and the spectacle. Where Bond is something else entirely, and not always the same something else. More classic spy movie, a lone spy doing their spy thing. When Bond is good, it's really good. Craig's bond seems to be on a 50% success rate. Casino Royale and Skyfall being out of the park good. Pre Craig it was basically a totally different genre though. More camp less grit.

Now Mission Impossible is too polished. I like the gritty feel of the early Bond and even the Bourne films. I would love to see someone do Thomas Perry's Butcher' Boy. Not espionage, but a fantastic Hit Man novel.

Haven't seen his Mummy yet. Not worth the watch, uh?

Mission Impossible looks super polished, but the way that they make those movies is insane. They often don't know what the actual story of the movie is until after they've shot most of it. It's crazy.

I actually enjoyed Cruise in the Jack Reacher movies. I didn't think I would because he is so miscast since the character in the books is huge, but I guess he channeled the inner Jack Reacher.

I took my wife and son to see CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER last weekend. It was playing in IMAX 3-D as part of the Marvel Film Festival, and tickets were FIVE BUCKS!! WINTER SOLDIER is one of my top three Marvel films, and I was thrilled to see it on the IMAX screen for the first time. I could watch that film over and over again. My wife loved it, too.

She and I also watched SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT in honor of Burt Reynolds the night he passed away. I had somehow never seen this film before. It was pretty much what I expected.....not great, but you could tell that all involved were having a good time, and that feeling of fun really showed. I did have one great belly laugh, when Burt looks at Sally Fields' legs and says "The last time I saw legs like that, they had a message attached to them."

Agree about the Winter Soldier. It was a great movie.

My wife and I saw CRAZY RICH ASIANS over the weekend, and I liked it a lot...a solid 8 out of ten.

On the other hand, we watched PITCH PERFECT 3 the other night....I thought the first two were a lot of fun, but 3 was a dopey sack of shit. Time to put this franchise out to acapasture.
