I have seen almost everything Troma has ever made-they don't get any worse than that, but I still have a little spot in my heart for Tromaville! Both my boyfriend and I feel that even a bad horror movie is better than a good movie of any other type!

I wasn't all that enthused about seeing it either, but my husband talked me into it thinking I'd enjoy watching the kids making their super 8 movie. My older brother used to make super 8 horror films when we were kids. I had a small acting part in his movie about killer rats, as well as his swamp monster one. Well, actually I was more like an extra. My older sister though, got the starring parts.

Super 8 was a very good movie. I thought that it incorporated a lot of humor along with the suspense and action. As far as scary? Not really. But then again, I don't think that there are many movies that can really scare me. Sure, they can make you jump but so can a pin in the ass.

I'm curious to know what films actually scared people. When was the last time you saw a film that was really scary? Most people will point out something they saw as a kid, but what about something you saw when you were an adult?

it's been a long time since I've been 'scared' by a film. Disgusted? Yes. Disturbed? Yes (The Hills Have Eyes) but not actually scared, per se. I would have to say the last one that was actually somewhat suspenseful and sort of scary was, and you'll laugh, Signs by M. Knight Shayamalan. Yes, he's kitsch but he used monsters, corn, and darkness. That's scary to me
It ain't braggin' if you can do it. . .

I thought that Insidious was pretty freaky. I wasn't expecting it to be so creepy. And I went by myself, too!

O.K. period there are three movies that scare me-more about the Zeitgeist which asks for them to exist The first is "Requiem For A Dream" -the all around wrong decisions and selfishness of ALL of "the characters" is just sickening-and it frightens me that Generation Y -Loves It So much. If you want to be depressed, distressed, annoyed, disgusted and just plain feel lost as "What it is to be a human being. "Watch It -I dare you not to be troubled. The second film is attributed to production Rights ,or financial and Creative backing by Quentin tarantino.Who by the way,HE HIMSELF scares me with that hyper GIGABNTIC child enthusiasm in a disturbing frame. He is JUST dubious an somewhat repellant to my aesthetics.Sorry Mr.Tarantino, you know what they say about OPINIONS. For the most part I get a retro kick out of his films-However "HOSTEL" is written by some European Guy,I do not want to even give him mention ,lest i propagate his sick mixture of abductions, torture, and delight in mangling women. The film is so offensive and painful to my RETINAS to watch -I gave it away at a yard sale to a 30 year old man only after he showed me his driver's license to prove he was WAY OVER 18. It is a MONSTROUS CREATION,SADISTIC<DERANGED<and Mutilations inflicted on young beautiful women for "THE FUN OF IT" makes my GORGE RISE.IT should beERADICATED.If a young adolescent were to Watch Requiem for a DREAM,HOSTEL,One and II but Particularly ONE. THe film proves that Abduction,Sheep to slaughter via stolen information, and Carrion Comfort Type Vicious Men ,exist, and are increasing geometrically in our cultureand are trying desperately to blend slowly their Sadistic,Meat ,BloodSexual Fantasies out into the contemporary Zeitgeist in order to MAKE it ART. Their numbers seem to be growing. It is SADISTIC PORNOGRAPHY/HOSTEL_BORDERING DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO SNUFF RECORDED DEATHS IT IS SO HEINOUS _I AM JUST GOING TO SHUT UP AND NOT RECOMMEND IT I DO NOT WANT TO GIVE HOSTEL the time of DAY,BUT, must warn adults and teens to destroy this ViRUS of a SEXUALLY DERANGED MIND THAT IS TRYIG TO BEND MINDS TO A NEW SNUFF FILM ACCEPTANCE. This SCARES ME JUST PLAIN SADISTIC RAPIST FANTASIES MADE "VIRTUALLY REAL" THIS FILM MAKES NICHOLAS CAGE'S 8mm a FAiry TALE,BUT AT LEAST THERE IS SOME HORROR AT THE HORROR OF SNUFFF PORN IN THAT FIlM. Some redeeming value. I'm genuinely afraid of what is happening to human "TASTE" for torture of women in the "ART" Zeitgeist. I feel these are "TRAINING DISCS for young ANIMAL TORTURERS. HOSTEL,is the most HORRIBLE,non art snuff propaganda that I ever saw ONCE. IT still "HAUNTS" me it is a dangerous bunch of digitized training for SOCIOPATHOLOGY, already exhibiting itself. I'm very AFRAID of This TREND.which seems to be rising within the Cultural Zeitgeist. It is so aggressively misogynistic it makes every version of "THE Texas Chainsaw Massacre seem"..somewhat sympathetic pathetic stories about victims caught in a dead town of Slaughterhouse workers- who are inbred and Cannibalistic. Stay away from HOSTEL-I am really not joking It surely damages a person.God forbid your ,child or teen gets ahold of it -IT seems deigned to help women hating sociopaths with ideas, sadistic practice,JUST PLAIN INHUMANE TO WOMEN. THE SECOND I CAME IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS INHUMANE ACROSS THE BOARD _LIKE A SUMMER RETREAT FOR THE MOST SOCIOPATHIC TO FULFILL THEIR TWISTED FANTASIES, Hate to say it, but a couple of the submitted stories seemed misogynistic, and sociopathic,"JUST FOR FUN." You all know which ones. This is the scariest part of life right now-this attempt to make pure Socio-pathology morally acceptable tying it in with sex,and misogyny. Anything can be justified as "ART" by the "WELL WORDED MANIFESTO." Sorry guys and ladies especially-I sense a trend towards more and more misogynistic ,women torture, abduction, abuse, rape, and twisted anti-creative disposal of women in This Zeitgeist. It is not acceptable, lowest rung on ladder, easy written,Dreck. I live Out By long Beach New York every other day-mostly broken up female remains. REmember Kurt Vonnegut's Mother Night"WE ARE WHAT WE PRETEND TO BE. Misogyny and torture in writing are millenia old and ancient. THE MARKET SEEMS TO BE GROWING, as does the low road of "EASY BEAT UP,CUT up Eat up Misogyny in horror writing. I wish young writers would reach for something more difficult,to imagine-something more ORIGINAL. Also I was very scared by "Children of Men" especially -when The leading male character Just left the Coffee shop and a terrorist bomb detonated it the very same coffee shop a half second later. I fell off the couch.-making his ears bleed. Beambounder

So, I guess you thought The Devil's Rejects was a better film?

                              I'm sorry. Just kidding.

I honestly felt, kinda, that way about The Devil's Rejects. I'm not so hot on watching people be terrorized and tortured--unless it fits the plot. But I feel the Rob Zombie decided to just do away with plot.

I thought Hostel was brilliant. I enjoyed the edge of my seat suspense. I did not feel scared but I was sweating for those poor fools. Did it use too much graphic torture? I guess so, but that also made the threat more intense. It actually worked with the plot. But I agree, that this is not often the case in very graphic horror films. It seems that plot kinda drops off the director's radar too often.

Now, a film that did scare me was The Exorcist. I could feel the despair and the frigid breath of Satan. IMHO.
