Yep, that was a good time!

I never got past coffee during the film, but afterward poured a nice Glenlivet and sat on the balcony smoking a cigar and writing about Sunset Boulevard for at least another hour. Don't know if I'll ever finish it and post it, but what a movie!

Ah man, I miss cigars... I used to smoke cigars/cigarellos but quit two years ago. I still have the urge to smoke one from time to time, but worry that it could be a tipping point and I might just start smoking more frequently again.

I'd started the night with a rusty nail, but moved onto a glass of Canadian whisky at the end, Gibson's Venerable 18 Year. Very smooth.

            Thank you, Mr. Hocker!

And Theli, I'm down for some noir on Wednesday. Just received Criterion's new Mildred Pierce release a few days ago, still need to see The Killers, Night of the Hunter, Sweet Smell of Success, and a bunch of others. Also wouldn't mind at all viewing one I've already seen if anyone has a strong preference.

I haven't seen The Killers, Mildred Pierce or The Sweet Smell of Success. Looks like I can view them on Youtube though, and The Sweet Smell... is free so that's a bonus! Mildred Pierce I was kind of holding off until I read the novel, though I really don't know when that would be, so I'm not totally opposed to viewing it. Night of the Hunter is always good, but I think you have the same aversion to it at the moment, as I do to Mildred Pierce.

My vote would be for The Sweet Smell of Success I think. I also wouldn't be opposed to a re-watch of something like The Big Sleep (I think Tommy may have wanted to watch it again) or Asphalt Jungle (I haven't watched it since getting the Criterion blu).

In a way, for me, TCM, and Robert Osborne specifically, is inextricably linked to film noir. I watched many of my favourite film noir movies (and other great classics too) there for the first time over the years, and more often than not they were introduced by Robert Osborne. He had a sagacity that added a bit more depth and class to the movies he introduced. Sadly he passed away today. He will be missed. Rest In Peace Mr. Osborne.

Never saw much of Robert Osbourne except his introductions to classic movies that I ended up loving. For me he's linked to classics in general.

Sweet Smell of Success sounds great, but I've only seen Big Sleep and Asphalt Jungle once each and would jump at the chance to watch them as part of a group!

You can watch The Big Sleep a thousand times and it will always seem like first because of how convoluted the plot is. I've seen it close to twenty times and am still vague about the entire story. I've seen Asphalt maybe 7 or 8 times and Sweet Smell twice. I'm down for watching any of those. I notice that Kiss me Deadly is still on your list. Have you seen that one Theli?

I have seen it, though it was a while ago. It definitely takes some strange turns near the end. I need to read more Spillane too, I, The Jury was great.

Is it fundamentally wrong to warm up for Noir Night with AC/DC's Send for the Man?

Hard to say... but I know Back in Black seems appropriate!

Great Noir Night, and I enjoyed The Big Sleep even more than the first time. That was a lot of fun, fellas.

I really got to get in on this. It seems like every Wednesday something comes up that prevents me, though.
