    Remake alert: Poltergeist

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1029360/?ref_=nv_sr_2

Well, I enjoyed the original, and part II - thought they were very well made horror/haunted house movies. Julian Beck's character creeped me out big time back then in the second one.

Looks like they are doing some kind of remake on this.

I hope it's a worthy remake and not just a cheap attempt to make money. I've loved Poltergeist since was a kid. My sister had a Ronald McDonald doll and I'm pretty sure it was discarded after we saw the clown scene.
The part that I always think of from part II (besides the attack of the tequila worm) is when Julian says "YOU ALL GONNA DIE!!!" It still creeps me out.

YES!!!! I agree. He had that creepy, skinny faced look, that always made me cringe. Loved the movie and own it on DVD along with II.

Poltergeist never lived up to it's hype for me. I think it needs to be seen as a kid, cause that's what it feels like is a children's horror movie (even with one traumatizing scene). So it's not a sacred cow to me. It's not to surprising that they are making a remake of this one, it was successful initially and still has a fanbase, but also the haunted house/paranormal films have been quite popular lately.

I actually saw some of this on TV this weekend again. Caught it right when things started getting all crazy with the tree animating and breaking into Robbie's room distracting the family while the spirits capture Carol-Anne.

Sure, the effects are dated, but actually still quite good for this era even.

Another movie that doesn't need a remake, IMO. But I don't recall MO ever mattering to Hollywood.
