Based off of budgets on Box Office Mojo for horror remakes, I'd say 30 mil is probably in the mid range of horror movie remakes. That said I doubt the clown had much to do with it, probably more likely just the fact that a big horror movie that everyone thought was going to do well, bombed. Granted everything I've heard about Poltergeist was that it was a pretty bad movie.

I went to Poltergeist opening night and it's really a shame they didn't do a better job with it. I left feeling a void and a desire to watch the original.

Yea I heard the CG was distracting and the two lead actors kinda "checked out" so to speak part way through. Like they looked at each other and said "What the hell are we doing?"

I always had mixed feelings for It. The tv movie. I loved Pennywise and some of the character development. However the giant spider at the end looked like something out of a 50's B movie. While I love those movies I just felt it was to over the top for the rest of the movie. I do love the book and do need to do a re-read of it some day soon.

Here's an interesting note on the development of The Stand:

Honestly it seems almost like a coup for cable companies. I absolutely hate watching cable, I can't stand watching episodes week to week, but now I'll need cable if I want to watch the movie in theatres. Either that or they will have a long wait between the series and the movie, at least until it's released on video. I dunno, seems like a bad idea to me, do one or the other.

I agree. But King's love for all different types of media is what's driving this, I'm sure.

Well unless it's on hulu or Amazon prime. I won't be watching. Cut the cable cord over a year ago. Don't miss it one bit.

Same here. I miss the food network, but I can get my fill of it at work.!

YouTube is my cable these days. Over a year ago I found I wasn't actually using cable anymore and dropped it as well.
