The Shawshank Redemption is the exception to that rule. Excellent movie, excellent cast.

I have no idea if they're good or not maybe I will watch them soon actually no. I haven't read carrie yet So I think i'll hold off until I do although it's not like I dont already know the ending.
I thought Shelley Duvall was rather yucky. No talent. She came off like someone who has nothing to offer yet insists upon being your best-est friend. But that seems to be a problem with most King adaptations. I love to pretend there will be a day when Hollywood does a King movie with a cast that knows how to act. :-) It is a curiosity; it's like they don't want to make good King movies. I like Tom Hanks, but even he seemed out of place in "The Green Mile".

I already ranted on page about my feelings regarding remakes BUT I do admit to liking several:

The Fly(already mentioned. Cronenberg took it to a whole other level)
Dawn of the Dead( they changed the story enough that I could get onboard)
The Thing(Carpenter ruled this! and so did Bottins effects)
Halloween(nope not better than C's version but unlike many, I enjoyed seeing Mike's backstory)
So, this being said, I am not totally closed minded to the fact of remakes, just most of them turn me off.

Hate to say it, but the original "Carrie" never did much for me. I think it's because of the overall style of the 70's, which to me was just horrible - but that's what you get when everyone did acid in the 60's. Ha ha.

I guess things never do change, though; I can see how they think a remake would fit in today's "I'm awesome and you suck" entitlement culture.

I thought Inglorious Basterds was only a steal of title, not an actual remake. I have to agree with The Fly, though.

I didnt watch the second one cuz I thought the first was stupid. It was one of those movies I wished I could have those few hours of my life back. It was the First and only Quentin movie I had seen at that point and I didnt like the EP of CSI he did So Im like I hate that guy. But I liked all of the others I have seen. Reservoir Dogs is one of my favorite movies.

Another one I didnt know was a remake. Inglorious Basterds. I enjoyed the Quentin Tarantino one though. I enjoy most of his stuff though. I used to hate him and I can't remember why. Must have been one specific movie I didnt like

Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds was better than the original, though mostly it was the spelling of "basterds" that links the two. 2006's Casino Royalewas better than the original. David Cronenberg's The Fly was better than it's 1958 original. I think you can add Evil Dead 2 to the list also.

As Gus Van Sant's shot-for-shot remake of Psycho proved, a remake needs to be something different. One of the best remakes I can think of is the '78 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. While the basic story was the same, the theme changed from the Red Scare fears of the 50s to the 70s issues of paranoia and identity issues.

I am not completely against remakes. For one reason only, people my age or younger often find it hard to watch older movies for one reason or another. Personally its the quality for me and sometimes the acting. A remake gives a whole new generation the opportunity to see a classic movie. Unfortunately, most of the time they end up seeing something COMPLETELY different. Remakes have potential but today's hollywood just ends up ruining it in one way or another while trying to please people of my generation or the next. and often people my age do love these remakes...usually I hate them though.

I doubt it will, since that's one of the best remembered things in the original and it wouldn't have the effect. But remember King loved that cheap trick, and it helped the movie sales a lot, and increased interest in King and kept his career flourishing, and arguably kick started his meteoric rise in the industry. Yes he was already doing well, but after the success of the movie versions of Carrie and The Shining, he went to whole new levels.

Well, if you sold all of your books you could probably have one of those...

    But awesome books are better!
