I'm a nerd. My friends all have comic strip calendars: Peanuts, The Far Side, Calvin & Hobbs, Dilbert, etc. Me, I have "Jack Kacrik's FORGOTTEN ENGLISH" calendar--365 days for obsolete and archaic English words and phrases plus iilustrative historic examples of those words and phrases.
For Monday, March 2nd,2015: BIBLIOBULI.
"There are people who read too much--bibliobuli. I know some who are constantly drunk on books, as other men are drunk on whiskey or religion. They wander throiugh this most diverting and stimulating of worlds in a haze" ----H.L.Mencken's Notebook 71, 1956.

I thought it was five and five. My mistake. But the books are great. I was happy with the selection. One author I have not read and one who I really love and two who I like a lot.Originally posted by Tommy View PostJust realized I copied, pasted and saved the announcement. It did say FOUR readers and FIVE $10 coupon codes, forgot all about that part. Sweet!

How did the coupons for this work? Obviously they have not been emailed yet - I have not received them at least anyway.

On Hemingway
Having been a bit intimidated by the man before picking up a single work of his, I understand the hesitation that can sometimes accompany material like this. In case anyone here feels the same way please let me help.
I’ve read nearly all of Hemingway’s short stories and wanted to share with you my favorite, comfortably resting in the top tier of stories I’ve ever read from anyone. A large part of this one deals with fear, but there is so much more.
If you haven’t read it, please take a few moments for ‘The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber’ if you can find the time. It’s the story of a man and his wife on safari with their guide, about finding courage when faced with fear, and touches on the absurdity of our lives. It’s more than worth your time investment, and again, is my favorite story from possibly the greatest writer America has produced. If this post helps crack the door to Hemingway for just one person I’d consider it a huge success.
