Here's what I could find:

In 2008, Director Ridley Scott had been working on a film adaptation but left the project. Soon after Scott's departure it was announced that director Todd Field had taken over. The film's production then stalled for unknown reasons. Since Field's departure, actor James Franco has expressed an interest in taking over the project as director. That was 2010. Recently, The scuttlebutt is about Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn expressing an interest in a film adaptation.

Who knows what will actually happen?
