I still couldn't get into Lisey's Story, so now I'm reading both The Envoy (nonfiction) and The Throat by Peter Straub. I've had the limited for many years, but never actually read it. But I fear it's going to be way too long and I'll lose interest. Anyone here read it? Is it any good?

Just finished "Book of Souls" by Ketchum. I was physically moved, maybe it's the paramedic in me or maybe his life stories just resonate with me. I was almost in tears and that has never happened from a book before.

Onto "Kill Whitey" by Brian Keene

I had to quit The Throat, then I went to his ghost story book and couldn't get into that, so now I'm not reading any fiction whatsoever until a pb edition of Ketchum's short stories get here...Exit at Toledo Blvd...

I just finished Carrion Comfort by Dan Simmons. Very good! Starting One of Our Thursday Is Missing by Jasper Fforde next.

That's the one I said on here sometime ago I really liked...at least I think I did lol. It reminded me of Swan Song and The Stand. I guess after King wrote the latter, a couple other authors decided they have to write their version as well. I still think Swan Song was one of the best horror/fantasy novels I've ever read and that says a lot considering I have such a hard time getting into fiction.

Carrion Comfort was a long one, but it kept my interest. His introduction about the process of writing and eventually getting Carrion Comfort published was also interesting to read. It made me want to read more Dan Simmons. I have been warned against Drood, though.

I have some other Dan Simmons' books but I don't even think I've read any. I have several signed I bought many years ago from some place in Colorado that went out of business and stole alot of people's money they had (including mine). I can't remember their names...Black Rose Books?? Something like that.

I agree on both accounts.
Carrion Comfort is awesome - my personal Simmons' favorite.
Drood...mwah...I think my least favorite so far.

I'm about to start on Flashback.

James Sallis Drive. What a great book. And The return of captain John Emmett, Speller I believe. Really good, well written Mystery.
