The Hangman's Replacement: Sprout of Disruption is the best book I've read this year. It's been entered in the Best Debut Mystery/Thriller competition on Amazon and has made to the quater finals. The final voting is on May 21.

To Love a Sea Rogue--well, it is what it is: a pornagraphic version of Pirates of the Carribean. I did have to replace the boring Keira Knightley with another actress to get through it, though.

Will start a reread of Carrie tomorrow.

Currently reading John Dies At The End. Still waiting on some books to arrive so this will have to satisfy til then. Very over the top and zaney.

Finally able to get back to reading. Finished up Double Feature a few days ago. At time I really enjoyed it and at times I felt the true story could have been told without many of the subplots. In the end I cared about the characters and enjoyed the story I had been told so I will say it is worth reading. I started to write a review on Good Reads but deleted it before posting it. I will let the story settle in to my mind and then get a review up. Today I read Rick Hautala's Reunion and really enjoyed it. Rick was a great story teller and we lost him too soon. Snow Shadows is up next.

And "over the top" is an understatement. BTW, you can read some of Wong's other stuff on Cracked.com. It's basically the web incarnation of the old humor magazine. It's easy to spend several hours reading on that site. And, no, I am not affiliated in any way with it. I just enjoy it.

I used to read CRACKED all the time as a kid, more than MAD. Yeah I think John Dies At The End started as blog posts or something there. Do you know if This Book Is Full of Spiders directly ties into JDATE?

I finished that on Monday and loved it! It's very well written and has a simplistic beauty about it that is undeniable, I cannot wait to start on The Shift Omnibus

That's when MY mom would say either: "Everybody--outside! go play," or "Go to your rooms, you're all grounded!" Even with my father!

Read the first two books in the Morningstar trilogy by Z A Recht. Starts out pretty good, fairly reasonable set up for the outbreak, moves along to a major military confrontation with the zombie hordes at the Suez canal, which had me thinking "finally zombie hordes vs modern military action" wrongo. then the story gets fairly lame after that. The characters are paper thin and pretty uninteresting. One of the major players throughout the series is the General in charge of the Suez battle, the guy could not be a less likely military figure, he could not command his way out of a sandbox with toy soldiers. He constantly gets everyone killed but they still are following along behind him. Probably will get the third book anyway because I hate leaving something unfinished.

Read Tim Curran's "Long Black Coffin" really liked this book. Hooked me in right away. I have been on a bit of a Curran kick lately, something really resonates with me and his writing. Here is the good read synopsis for the story.

The Long Black Coffin is a '67 GTO. A street-eater and a life-taker. Like an open grave, it's hungry for death.

Vic Tamberlyn committed suicide in it. His son Kurt asphyxiated in it. Maybe there's no connection, but Kurt's best friend, Johnny Breede, doesn't believe it. For the Long Black Coffin has a history. And that history will lead Johnny into a web of murder, insanity, and sexual perversion. He'll learn gruesome family secrets that connect a decade-old series of child abductions to a primordial evil that lives on in the car in the form of a sadistic teenage girl.

A girl whose mother was human, but whose father was anything but.

I'm still reading Don Quixote as an ebook on my computer and though it's making the book go more slowly than it normally would, I'm determined to finish it as an ebook.
