    Fredric Brown and Cornell Woolrich

While looking up info. about Fredric Brown and Cornell Woolrich I stumbled upon this website http://www.haffnerpress.com/
They are releasing all of Fredric Brown's short fiction and novels (except his science fiction works). I admittedly have not read anything by Fredric Brown or Cornell Woolrich. Yeah-Go ahead and call me uneducated and tell me what I've been missing... I also was unaware of this publisher until now. They have some sharp looking books. There is one Fredric Brown title on eBay that I'm watching-Very affordable. I want to read one book by each author.

I've read a couple of Brown's crime shorts. They were quite enjoyable; succinct, sordid and fun.

I've read Woolrich's I Married a Dead Man. It was quite different than I had thought it would be. In many ways it shares as much with the gothic genre as it does with crime or noir. His prose is quite floral and not as punchy as many of his peers. The story was straight forward enough, but told in an interesting fashion. I liked it quite a bit.

In summary; both authors are worth checking out.

I read Woolrich's Rendezvous in Black and thought it was great--totally different than other things I usually read (I don't normally read noir). Woolrich is a great writer--loved his prose. I liked it so much I bought The Bride Wore Black. I haven't read that one yet.

I have both Fredric Brown books by Haffner:

...as well as a good number of other Brown books, and an even larger number of Cornell Woolrich (and his pseudonym, William Irish) titles. I'm a huge fan of both, and could not recommend each of them higher.

If you want a quick and cheap intro to both before laying out the big bucks, I'd recommend these short-story collections:

          For Brown: https://www.amazon.com/Miss-Darkness.../dp/0982633998

          For Woolrich: https://www.amazon.com/Window-other-.../dp/0671652699

Miss Darkness is way too long. It is more than 700 pages. The Cornell Woolrich book is likewise too big and too many stories. Cap

I see that both your Haffner books are still in shrink wrap, but any insight to the quality of their productions? I was checking out their website, but haven't had any experience with them. The Fredric Brown series has piqued my interest.

The shrink wrap was off shortly after I received them and this picture was taken, and the quality of production is up to the standard of excellence that Haffner always produces. I have at least a half-dozen other Haffner releases, And all are top-notch. I highly recommend their publications.

Out of curiosity do you know if it's a sewn or glued binding and what the boards are made of?

I would assume with much confidence that it's sewn, but for other specific questions on materials and process I would recommend emailing the publisher, Stephen Haffner, to get the accurate info from the horse's mouth. Hope that helps.

Cool, thanks! I was hoping with that girth that the binding would be sewn.

Haffner has always put out a high-quality product with much attention to detail and durability (like Centipede, this is one of the few presses where you can actually see where/how much of the price tag is justified), so while I don't have the books at my fingertips at the moment to confirm, I would shocked -- shocked! I tell you -- if these Brown book were glued. I know their earlier volumes are sewn, and have no reason to believe these volumes are any different. Buy with confidence.

I found a Fredric Brown double (two books in one paperback) that was just what I was seeking (And it helped one title in the double was the title I decided I wanted to read). I'm still looking for a nice, affordable Cornell Woolrich book. I haven't see any doubles or anything of that type, so far, for CW.

Not two novels, but four novellas, so essentially the same...and just 192 pages:

                            https://www.amazon.com/Four-Novellas...sap_bc?ie=UTF8

Good stuff, a solid representation of Woolrich's skill at creating narrative tension.
