    August 2025 - How many?

    I finished four in August.

    1. The Stand by Stephen King. King ‘s post-apocalyptic classic. You either love it or hate it. 5 / 5

    2. Memorials by Richard Chizmar was a mixed bag. The first 3/4 was more of a slow burn mystery / thriller. The last 1/4 was full on satanic panic mayhem (the novel is set in 1983). For me, the ending just didn’t seem to fit the beginning of the story. Also, there were some unintentionally (I believe) humorous scenes that cut the tension. All in all, not bad, but could have been better. If you are a fan of his boogeyman novels, Memorials is probably worth a read.
    3 / 5

    3. A Little Blue Book of Civil War Horrors by Ambrose Bierce was a collection of 10 (mainly) ghost stories set during the Civil War. My favorites were all rereads (‘An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge’, ‘Chickamauga’, and ‘The Damned Thing’), but there’s really not a bad story in this short collection. 4 / 5

    4. Fitted Sheet was a chapbook by Ian Rogers. This was more of a dark fantasy story. Reminded me of something Ray Bradbury would write back in the day, and that’s a good thing. 4 / 5
