    R.I.P. Jim Shooter

I just read that Jim Shooter has died from Cancer of the Esophagus, which he had been fighting for years.

For those that don't know, Shooter was the controversial Editor-in-Chief of Marvel Comics for 8 years in the 1980s. For my money, the GREATEST years to be a Marvel fan. A lot of creators had issues with him, but there's no denying the talent the man brought to the forefront (Frank Miller, John Byrne, Walt Simonson, Mike Mignola....just an endless list.), and the innovations he brought to the industry, such as creator-owned books, royalty and incentive programs, new and different formats...he made his tenure legendary. Shooter's Marvel is the BEST that Marvel has ever been, in my opinion. He was also a prolific writer, who got his start writing DC's LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES at age 13.....Just imagine that.

    Rest in peace.

Oh, man. I hadn't heard about this. His tenure at Marvel was a little before my time. I was ten when it ended, and though I probably read some of the comics in the latter years of his reign, it would have been lost on me. His influence on the comic scene was felt by me primarily through the launch of Valiant Comics. Before their ousting of Shooter, Valiant was full of potential, a potential that was unfortunately ground to dust after his ousting. From stuff I've read, he didn't seem like the easiest guy to work with, but one cannot deny his work ethic or impact on the industry overall.

I'll second that Rest in Peace.
