    August 2023 - How many?

Another slow reading month. Only finished 2 in August.

    1. The Dog Stars by Peter Heller offers a realistic approach to the post-apocalyptic story. No supernatural elements, no zombies, no monsters (other than the human kind). TDS tackles the question: would you leave a relatively safe & stable situation to risk trying to find something better? Highly recommended, especially if you are looking for an engaging read outside the horror / sci-fi genres. 4.5 / 5

    2. Classic Monsters Unleashed ed. by James Aquilone was a large anthology (nearly 30 stories) based on the classic monsters from the old Universal Studio films. For the most part the stories were entertaining, though mostly unmemorable. Favorites were ‘Modern Monsters’ by Monique Snyman (an entertaining take on the crossover of the fly with reality tv) & Joe Lansdale’s classic ‘God of the Razor’ (don’t know how that fit the classic monster motif, but it was the closing story to the anthology). Also enjoyed the stories by Geneve Flynn, Owl Goingback, JG Faherty, Gaby Triana,
Sean Eads & Joshua Viola, Alessandro Manzetti, & Rena Mason. 3.4 / 5

I bought The Dog Stars on Amazon last week. It is really cheap. I spent two days reading it. It is great.
