1. Between Two Fires - Christopher Buehlman. If McCammon had set Swan Song in the dark ages, it may have come out something like Buehlman‘s Between Two Fires. My favorite book in 2022.

Finished 63 total books in 2022. Hope to do better in 2023.

I didn't even read enough books to complete a Top 5 let alone a Top 10, but my favorite book of the year from what I did read was The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones. Funny enough, this is a book that I initially struggled with and had put down for a bit due to some big life-type shifts. I think I only went back to it because I can't not finish a book once I've started it, but once I did, something had shifted and I truly enjoyed the rest of the book.

SURVIVOR SONG was great...made the disappointment of THE PALLBEARER'S CLUB even more acute. Oh well, no author hits every one out of the ballpark.

Thanks for the reminder of THE OMEN...still need to read my Suntup AE.

GUESTS was great...KPB really knows to construct a tight, eerie novella. A master of the form.

I'm glad to see Mendal Johnson's get some contemporary love via the Valancourt reprint. I read it a couple decades ago, and thought it a shame that more people had heard of its reputation than had actually read the thing.
