    Paul Melniczek's October recommendations

Remember when Paul Melniczek used to post Halloween/Horror themed shows on television during October?

    That was at the Drive-In?

Wow. Looks like a great place to get Viagra and CBD oil for your pet from trusted Russian sources, though, so I guess there's that.

First time I've checked on it in many years...didn't care at all for the way the HD-I forum was shut down previously without at least a day or two notice to its members -- many long-term like you and me -- so just stayed away. Interesting that Mark is still posting blog-style elsewhere on the site, and that he reintroduced the forum a year ago or so, from the looks of it, to the apparent pleasure of his entrepreneurial Russian forum members. I'm not sure what the intent of the site is at this point, but do wish him well.

The old HDi forum was a great place. If I remember correctly Sieber trashed the place because he took offense to one persons comment. I can't remember the details though he used to threaten to close the place down every year or so.
I had no idea that he started the forum up again though having checked it out he probably shouldn't have bothered.

Hoke used to go there and occasionally get suspended, but he was a supporter.

          Oh well, life goes on.

The tradition continues, except we've been doing it at the Halloween Forum for years. Several people post threads with October TV listings. Another thing of course is your own Halloween movie list. So how about adding your October lineup? Better late than never! Some years I can barely watch half of what I have on the list depending on how busy I am. I also agree about the HDI. I give Mark a lot of credit trying to revive the forum, but FB has swallowed nearly all of them. And now the spammers have descended like the vultures they are. I don't like FB myself, but my business necessitates it. Below I posted my own list. If you like, I can do an October TV schedule if there's interest? I also have a new Halloween Books, Paul Melniczek FB page up. I can't access any of my old ones thanks to the incompetence of FB, so just do a search. I update that year round.

Fortunately my job does not necessitate a facebook account so I do not have one. I would love to see your Halloween books recommendations, if you would be willing to post them here.

Honestly, I hardly have time to read anything (or write). But the ones for this season I would highly recommend 13 HORRORS OF HALLOWEEN, some of Al Sarrantonio's work, and if you can grab a copy of BECOMING OCTOBER by William P. Simmons, it's a great read. Almost impossible to find. Other Halloween anthologies are out there too. Of course, all my own Halloween books and then some!

Oh yeah, THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN' ABOOT!!!

Like how I go back and forth between English and Canadian?

                  Yeah, it's a gift.

The Halloween Forum lists a lot. I'm also short of time.
I wish there was a more comprehensive list.

I try and start reading Halloween books in September but it never happens. Weather is still great and I'm busy with a lot of stuff. Fortunately there's the rest of the year for it!

Any interest if I write any Halloween lists up for October? It's been a while since I posted, but what better reason than the Halloween season.

                              Hi guys,

Firstly, I humbly and deeply apologize for the abrupt way I closed down the forums. It wasn't very considerate. Especially to those who gave so much support over the years. In explanation, I was going through a difficult time. Same old crap. As some may know, I had a serious drinking problem for many years. I was in the process of quitting yet again. It was incredibly difficult. I wasn't sleeping well, I was irritable and in great discomfort. As was said above, someone really pissed me off. Other extremely unpleasant things had been going on, and I was frankly at the end of my rope. I needed change. I know now I went about it in a selfish way. I felt that if I announced it, I would be talked into keeping the place alive. I hate to sound like overly dramatic, but the forums were indeed a threat to my sobriety.

I quit writing reviews and commentaries for quite some time as well.

The good news is, that attempt to quit drinking worked. I'm six or seven years sober. I don't really keep count. My life is immeasurably better, if busier than ever.

Yes, I still use the blog. Almost no one visits, which kind of hurts, but I do it for myself. My wife enjoys it, and so do a few other people. As you may know, the entries have been collected in two volumes from Cemetery Dance. A third is forthcoming.

I'm still involved in the field, but it's changed. I am a bookseller at cons and events.

I go to conventions, and the faces have changed. So few people from the old days are around anymore. I miss the forum and all the good and crazy times. I really miss Hoke. He was never banned, but I felt like doing it now and then. That attempt I made to start it up was a mess. Endless spam, even though I paid the monthly fee to supposedly prevent it. Honestly, between my day job, which is more demanding than it has ever been, my marriage and our activities, the bookselling business, blogging and my publishing projects, as well as some new things I am doing with CD, I have no extra time.

It's all good. I am happy. For the first time in my life, really.
