WTB: Scalzi’s OLD MAN’S WAR, Subterranean S/L HC

I am thinking about getting my Scalzi fix with a re-read of Fuzzy Nation.

Good one? Safe to assume it's one you'd recommend? Thinking about what Scalzi to pick up next, but don't want to get bogged down in one of his other series (yet), so was looking at either FUZZY NATION or ANDROID'S DREAM (perhaps RED SHIRTS, but though I'm a Star Trek fan, it comes across as kinda gimmicky). Will certainly pick up the two-book LOCK IN series before too much longer. I also just received THE DISPATCHER, so that'll be next.

Yes, go to The Dispatcher, it is great. Androids Dream is along the lines of Agents to the Stars. Completely unexpected and fun to read. I am not a Star Trek fan but really enjoyed Red Shirts. It actually is gimmicky but with Scalzi’s dialog and humor I really enjoyed it. The Lock In duo are good but not great. Avoid Miniatures and The Gods Engines and you will be fine.

...aaannd losing the battle of inner restraint to pick up a copy of the Sub Press signed HC of AGENT TO THE STARS. Have one on the line at the moment that I’ll likely pull the trigger on tonight.

I warned you, Scalzi is addicting! I am currently listening to Will Wheaton read Fuzzy Nation, great stuff.

Hard to believe I’ve gotten so damn fanatical about an author I hadn’t even read just three months ago! Amazing what can come out of the blue sometimes...

I went from having never read his work to having read all published fiction in a little over a year.

I recommend pacing yourself. He does not publish as fast as we read. Re-reading does help but it is not the same.

I completely failed with the restraint also. I thought The Dispatcher was a very creative story as is Redshirts.

Yeah, THE DISPATCHER was great, and I’m about halfway through REDSHIRTS and am really enjoying it. I read some older interview on-line where Scalzi said he was going to revisit the world of THE DISPATCHER and write a full-length novel set there. No idea if he’s still working on that idea or if he abandoned the idea...

A full length novel in The Dispatcher universe would be fantastic. I have The Dispatcher on audio and it is a perfect length for a quick listen but a full novel would be fantastic!

Martin, I finished FUZZY NATION tonight, and you were right (in another thread)...it’s a fantastic read, full of character and thrills, heart and charm. Just a wonderful read.

I couldn’t help it — just started another Scalzi (THE ANDROID’S DREAM) right after it.
