Ghost Story by Peter Straub--Centipede Press DELUXE edition

I know that we have a Post Your Latest Purchase thread along with a dedicated thread to Centipede Press, but HOLY BISCUITS I think this bad boy deserves its own thread because it is a thing of beauty!

I don't think this has been publicly announced by Centipede Press yet, though I did see it mentioned in the newsletter from Conversation Tree yesterday, whom collaborated with Jerad at Centipede in making this edition. This arrived on my doorstep yesterday and I had only generalities as far as aesthetics as is customary from Jerad. Under-promise and over-deliver seems to be his motto and this edition FAR exceeded my expectations. My pathetic photography skills do not show off just how impressive this book is, but I just couldn't NOT share it as soon as possible.

This is by far the most expensive book I've ever purchased--it's actually been decided that this is my gift from my wife for our 20th wedding anniversary in April--and a stupidly extravagant edition of Ghost Story has always been a "holy grail" type item for me and I'm just so pleased with it.

Jesus, that's beautiful. I was wondering what that Conversation Tree email was referring to...while also beautiful, the standard limited of GHOST STORY form Centipede didn't seem grand enough to demand an outside designer. Now it makes sense. Congratulations, that's really stunning! Just out of curiosity, since it was offered to newsletter subscribers, how were you offered the opportunity to buy it?

              Wow, WOw, WOW! Stunning.

Congrats. That is a lovely looking edition.

Thanks, everyone. I have the same feelings for Straub and Ghost Story as other folks do for King and It or The Stand or the The Dark Tower series, so I'm very happy with having the chance to own this edition. And, honestly, my pictures don't do this book justice, especially the traycase; the Japanese silk looks so much better in person. Even my wife was impressed.

Ron, as for your question about how I had the opportunity to purchase the title, the short of it is I emailed Jerad shortly after the announcement Centipede would be doing the limited edition and inquired about the possibility of a deluxe version. He said it was an idea he was bandying about but no specific plans. After the limited came out, I inquired again about the deluxe and he said he'd keep in touch. Last September he emailed if I was interested and gave me some brief details including price and I confirmed my desire for a copy. I had no idea it was done or anything until I received a shipping notice from Ludlow with a vague shipping notice. It wasn't until I unboxed the book that I knew for sure what it was.

I can't say how Jerad handled the selling of the remaining copies. I've been a subscriber for a 5+ years (you know, the one where you buy every book Centipede publishes and hope that your wife doesn't leave you), but there was no subscriber email that went out asking for interest or anything, at least not one I know of. It's possible something went out and didn't include me as we talked privately, or maybe he reached out to previous Deluxe Edition purchasers and gave them first dibs. Frankly, I have no clue. Sorry.

I'm not on social media, so maybe I'm just out of the loop, but I haven't heard any chatter about this edition anywhere besides the aforementioned Conversation Tree newsletter. Curious to see how the market responds to the title if and when someone offers it on the secondary market. I can say for certain this bad boy's not leaving my shelf!

Ah. Nice that Jerad would followup with you to ensure you were able to snag a copy! Again, congrats -- I imagine that must be a touchstone / grail within your fine library.

Yes, I am VERY grateful to Jerad. To be honest, I find most of the small press publishers are really good people and try to do right by their customers.

Absolutely. For every Dark Regions, there's a host of others that restore one's faith in the marketplace.
