I figure I can post this here for those who might be interested in this sort of thing.

Folks have asked why I don't have a "product" section on the LetterPress site yet, but it's because I think it would make things more confusing for people since I cannot remove the "sold out" designation and I don't want people thinking the Limited Edition of REVIVAL cannot be ordered now... I actually want to get rid of that "sold out" overlap anyway because I want you to be able to just SEE the image on the category page, but I have to find a good "helper" for that sort of thing and haven't yet.

Anyway, here is where the book category will be, just in case you're interested and want to look around:

Why? Because there's suddenly been movement on a long gestating project that would be a dream to publish and raise a lot of a good cause. It's probably not going to happen, yet again, but I'm thinking positively here that maybe it will. And if not, I'm always poking around for something else, so you never know.

I'll actually add both of these sections to the MENU at the top of the site and link to them widely in June.

There were two projects that seemed very possible after FAITHFUL, one fell apart pretty quickly but the other dragged on for years and years, with all kinds of reasons why one of the two rights holders maybe would but maybe wouldn't... and then suddenly another publisher announced a Limited Edition out of the blue one day, even though I had just checked in a few weeks earlier and was told "maybe" we had finally turned a corner. The agent never even mentioned it to me. That was a bummer.

All of the donation comes from what would have been the publisher's profits.

The last time Stewart O'nan came to Portland promoting a book I had a few minutes to chat with him and we discussed your production of Faithful. I can't remember it but he actually told me a dollar amount that went to charity for that project. He was very pleased with the book and the contributions to charity it generated. I am sure it was nice to get the commission but clearly he was thinking about the charity the project helped.

Love that one. I love so much of his work. Even a short novella like Last Night at the Lobster is packed with details that stuck with me after reading it. The Night Country is an obvious one for fans of the dark season, if folks are looking for a place to start.

I don't think I've ever posted this, but there's a section in The Circus Fire where his description of the circus strongman tossing children to safety actually made me cry. I stopped the book at that point, and didn't come back for a few days.

I find O'nan is at his best when he is writing about everyday lives. Song for the Missing just kept me on an emotional edge as I felt like I was experiencing what the family was going through. Night at the Lobster is another that really evokes emotional responses at times. The Circus Fire is different in that it is non-fiction. I hope he delves into Non-Fiction again. For me The Night Country, while a good read, is not O'nan at his best. Now I need to move Henry Himself up on my to be read list!
