A PRAYER FOR THE DYING. It’s a terrific read.

Glad to hear that! Haven't read this one and the description sounds great. Always nice to also know that someone on the forum enjoyed it as well.

It’s probably my third or fourth favorite O’Nan, preceded only by OCEAN STATE, SPEED QUEEN, and *maybe* AMONG THE MISSING, but if push-come-to-shove it could take that third spot from AMONG.

I love how different people's "Fav O'Nan" lists can be. He's such a versatile author, so you see a lot of different results. As of this year, I'll have published my top 2, and we're working on the rights to #3 on my list... Which is on your list as well!

My top five O'Nan titles are in no particular order are:
                  • A Prayer for the Dying
                  • Songs for the Missing
                  • The Speed Queen
                  • The Circus Fire
                  • Ocean State
I will also give honorable mention to Last Night at the Lobster. It is more novella that novel and extremely quirky but a well told story.

My dream title would be The Speed Queen with an essay from O'Nan about the original title and why it never saw print under that title and an essay by a certain author who was part of the original title!

More O'Nan please, I love his writing!

…and of course by AMONG THE MISSING I meant SONGS FOR THE MISSING. Not sure where that mangled title came from…I think that’s a Laymon title!

                      My brain autocorrected it.

Yeah, my dream foreword to The Speed Queen would be called "Dear Stewart O'Nan" and would be written by you know who. I'm going to suggest the idea when the time comes, even though I suspect I know the answer!

“When” not “if.” My day has been made.

I also auto corrected that. I had to look back to see what you wrote.
