Hey guys, I"m looking for suggestions of inexpensive, matching, hardcover versions of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. If anyone has any suggestions that'd be great.

It's not what I would call inexpensive, but EP has this:

Each book is about the price of new signed/limited fron CD, so I consider it moderately expensive.

Every time I walk into Barnes and Noble, they have a HC set of The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings in a slipcase for around $70-80.

I love my hardcover Annotated Hobbit, and I want the Rankin Bass illustrated hardcover of it too... But there aren't any matching HC Rings trilogy ones to go with them that I know of.

Hey Dan, when will the next writing contest for Cemetery Dance open up? We're all chomping at the bit for another round of tale
          spinning.

Not sure Randy. We still have to get the chapbook out from the last one. I'll talk to Brian, but I'd assume if we do another any time soon it'd be sometime this summer.

A few years ago the SFBC offered a nice hard cover of all 3 lord of the rings books in one volume. Also a hard cover of the
hobbit. If you are looking for something cheap and hard cover you might check them out.I have read my copies about 3 times. One of my favorite stories. They do hold up well.

                  Hi Dan,
I sort of favor the older stuff, so I recommend the HMco Box set published back in the early '70's, nice understated design, great fold out maps in the back of each volume, reasonably priced, just a nice set. The books feel good in your hand. The other option might be the HMco set that came out in the early '80's. I always think of them as the "Green and Red set". The Hobbit is a nice green volume in a green slipcase, LOTRs is a red omnibus volume in a red slipcase. They display nicely together. And to owe up to it, I still have the very first paperback set I bought as a kid. You know the artwork looks like everybody was dropping acid, reading the books and madly illustrating as they went along! HAHAHAHA! Still Love those books.

I have The Hobbit from BMOC sometime in the 80's with a gold cover and slipcase. I think it was the 50th year anniversary edition.

I think this edition cost me 19.95 in 1987(?) I don't have a HC copy of LOTR; I have 25th Anniversary paperbacks (also of The Hobbit and The Silmarillion). Eventually, I intend to get the EP editions.

Havn't opened up The Hobbit in a while; I found a calligraphy bookmark from my first RenFest stuck in there.
