I was the same way, Even once I started reading alot of King, I would skip the ones I saw the movie for. One of them made me change my mind about it. I can't remember which one it was now. But I happened to read the book then rewatch the movie(Which i Always do) and it was so different that I went, "oh, wow, what am I missing?" So Now I just read all of his new stuff as it comes out and in between I am going from the beginning and working forward. Right now I am on Firestarter So once I read Pet Sematery I will be caught up on the DoubleDay.

Also, people keep talking about The Stand possibly being the original, and while I hope they are right, I don't believe it will be. Brian did say the Size of it would be a huge strain on the printer and make the book cost more to produce which I would think would more likely make it uncut. It is a large book either way so I could be wrong.

Any chance that The Stand will be split into two volumes like Grant did with The Talisman and some of the s/l DT books? I don't really see that happening since it wasn't done with IT but I thought it might be a possibility.

Is there just going to be the 6 color pieces of art or will there be some B&W too?

Just the color plates. Aiming for quality over quantity for this set, if that makes sense!

We talked about that with IT, but the general impression we received from several collectors was that they weren't fans of the two volume sets. It also raises the production cost and retail price because printing and binding two 600 page books is more expensive than printing and binding one 1,200 page book. So we decided it was better to just work with our printer on IT to essentially max out the printing press.

Fwiw I appreciated IT being one book. I don't know if I could have afforded a two volume set if other examples are any consideration.

I prefer the one volume package too.

I have the Sub Press edition of Cryptonomicon, which is huge, and also the Charnel House edition of Harlan Ellison's The Glass Teat/The Other Glass Teat, another great production. I prefer that to two-volume sets.

I agree, one volume sets look nicer. I was never a fan of the 6 volume set of The Green Mile that Sub Press produced as I thought having a single volume deluxe edition would have been nicer and indeed, cheaper to buy.

I'd really like Daniele Serra to be considered for one of the artists ... http://www.multigrade.it/

I was thinking of that one too. I do like that I pre-ordered it and got my name on the list of people who walked the Green Mile in vol 6

We've worked with Daniele Serra on one project before and I bet we will again at some point. The style of art really works for certain stories.

The only problem I have with very long books is when the text block sags. Maybe that has more to do with the quality of the binding than the size of the book. I notice that IT doesn't have this issue as much as others, especially considering its size.

That's interesting you guys don't care for the format of The Green Mile. I think it's one of my favorite (but then again, each one is cool) limited editions. I think the six-book design is cool, makes it unique and looks cool in my collection. However, I wouldn't mind if CD were to do a single volume edition and I think Chong would be a nice choice, among others, for the artwork.

In my dream of dreams, CD would march front to back of the entire Stephen King catalog doing these gift editions. Sure, I'd love a few to be signed by King, but I would prefer to at least have a high quality edition of as many King titles as possible. Here's to hoping!
