A lot of people on the forums are from Maryland and the surrounding areas, not suprising that a few have heard of Crack the Sky.

They open a lot of their shows with "From the Greenhouse". It is a great way to jump right in. If you've never heard their live version of "I am the Walrus" you need to find a copy. And you must own a copy of the "White Music" album. Very cool fractal vidoe there, by the way.

Love Cracker and Crack the Sky. Saw Cracker in a bar in Delaware playing to a handful of people once. Great show. If you like Hendrix, try it club style with The Beautiful People.

Wow, I really didn't expect anyone here to have ever heard of Crack the Sky, but I've loved them for 30 years now. And they still put on a great show.

I have almost everything done by Patty Griffin and Steve Earle, two of my favorites, as well. Also have a number of Cracker albums, but they'll never be as good as Camper Van Beethoven in my book.

Some others, of recent years are Guided By Voices, Centro-Matic, Okkervil River along with some long-standing favorites, like Neil Young, Curtis Mayfield, Billie Holiday, Tommy Keene, Buffalo Tom...and the list keeps going on and on. Johnny Cash, Chris Knight...

Oh yes, Okkervil River. Hoping to see them live over here next month.

I know I'm getting old because I don't have patience with today's music. The music I love is artsy without being "sensitive", "angry" or "angst-ridden". To that extent, as limited as it is, I haven't come across a band I really liked since The Rainmaker's debuted in 1986. (To be honest, I stopped looking for a "new" band in 1997.) Rolling Stone gave their self-titled debut 5 stars, calling them a mixture of the best of the Stones and the best of Creedence. It also gave them the best rock lyric of the 80's award for "The generation that would change the world/is still looking for it's car keys" from a song called "Drinkin' on the Job." They were bigger in Europe and Japan (where bands still cover their stuff). They've gone their separate ways twice,always reuiniting for a new album but the lead singer, Bob Walkenhorst lives in Kansas City and he plays acoustic in bars every now and again. In May, the band reuinted for a new album sans lead guitarist and to perform a concert of their first album for it's 25th anniversary. The concert is up for free viewing in my area on Time Warner Cable so I can enjoy it (I was also at the concert.) Anyway, it's dated, but here's something from them:

That's the song I heard on satellite radio. Heard it probably 3 times before I finally caught the name of the band and then was able to find their album at my local target for $7 or 8

Dave Matthews Band, Breaking Benjamin, Amos Lee, Fair to Midland, and Thriving Ivory are just a few that I love. Thriving Ivory has 2 albums released so far and I never would have even heard of them if I hadn't needed to have a rental car for a week after an accident. Have only heard them on satellite radio

I'll start with Airborne Toxic Event, two studio albums in, they've become one of my must see bands when they're over in the UK.
