The Catcher was a Spy The Mysterious Life of Moe Berg by Nicholas Dawidoff:
    P1170528.jpg
Theseare about a major league ball player with an Ivy League degree who left baseball and joined the OSS (CIA) to fight Hitler. His life is a mystery, he is rumored to have refused a presidential medal after the war because he stated the 'you are asking me to accept an award for events I can never talk about.' The CIA did not acknowledge that he worked for them until long after his death. He has intrigued me since I first heard of him.

Baseball A litery Anthology edited by Nicholas Dawidoff:

Possibly the best baseball book ever printed. I bought this based on the fact it had a re-print of a non fiction piece written by Moe berg titled Pitchers and Catchers that he wrote while playing for the Red Sox. I then realized it had many great re-prints including Head Down by Stephen King, a story about Owen King's little league teams run to the Maine Little League championships.

Sad to say that I have not read this one yet, I did read the section in the back about Mr. Cronin's trip to gather material and really enjoyed that and the photo's that go with it. Here is a sampling of the photo's:
