mhatchett:
Thanks for responding, and for providing great info on Karl Wagner. I knew of the Carcosa books, and once had a copy of the huge volume EXORCISMS AND ECSTASIES. I've got one of the HORROR STORY collections composed of YEAR'S BEST HORROR material, and a signed copy of IN A LONELY PLACE—Scream Press edition. Sold my galley proofs (dammit!) for WHY NOT YOU AND I?

I think Centipede Press has a made a good stab at it.
1. Where the Summer Ends: The Best Horror Stories of Karl Edward Wagner Vol 1
2. Walk on the Wild Side: The Best Horror Stories of Karl Edward Wagner Vol 2
3. MASTERS OF THE WEIRD TALE KARL EDWARD WAGNER
We would love to see even a lean interview of KEW. I also have the Carcosa Press books that he edited, which are really cool.
Worse Things Waiting (1973),Far Lands, Other Days (1975),Murgunstrumm and Others (1977),Lonely Vigils (1981). Pardon my enthusiasm lol!!

Yeah, someone needs to put out a Wagner opus—unless it's already out there. I might have missed it. In 1985 I did a mail interview with him for THE HORROR SHOW, but it was too lean to publish. I think that was around the time Karl was beginning to feel overwhelmed.Last edited by William J. Grabowski; 09-02-2015, 04:13 AM.

Each book had a short novel and I *think* a short story. The main titles were Giants From Eternity and Strangers on the Heights. Just over 150 pages per voluje.Originally posted by mhatchett View PostI didn't know about the 2 book set. I'll have to keep an eye out. Thanks!

Side note....if you do go for the Hodgson books....I know vol/s 1 and 2 went through a second prining. Not sure on 3-5. The Wellman 5 book series is a nice set too. They also did a 2 book slipcase Wellman set of a couple of short novels/ novellas.Originally posted by frik51 View PostLove William Hope Hodgson as well, Brad. Another five books to search out....Thanks!!

Nightshade was a fantastic company! Through them I was introduced to the aforementioned Smith and Hodgson but also Glen Cook. I also like Steven Erickson novellas they put out. Missed out on the Wagner releases unfortunately, and they go for quite a pretty penny.

I bought a lot of things from Nightshade before they went out of business. Loved everything they sent me, especially the Wagner set and the Manly Wade Wellmen collection. I hear they had a lot of business issues but I think they made a damn good shot of putting out some good books. I'll be getting the paperback editions for sure.

The only reason I have them is because they were offering Lifetime deals at one point. It was a great deal until their lifetime ended....LOL!Originally posted by frik51 View PostYes, I found that out a couple of days ago. I'd love to own the HCs, but they're way too expensive right now.
The paperbacks will have to do, I'm afraid.

I guess there will only be a paperback release, and no HC re-release??
