If CD has to release their book after S&S, then you need to go complain to S&S.

Just decided to log back into this site for a good laugh. My post was over 2 years ago and still no release on this book. Lol. Just absolutely embarrassing. No update or timeline whatsoever provided by S and S or CD. Actually if you go to the Amazon page for this book it says expected release of 2045!!! That’s not a typo it says 2045. Also enough with the Covid has really effected every thing nonsense. That was 2 years ago! Covid has not prevented a book from being released for over 2 years.

    Feel free to vent here.

But yes, the rights were sold to S&S before our announcement, and part of the contract with S&S was the requirement that we not publish our editions before their editions. They could have asked for all rights in the agreement, not even allowing a Limited Edition, so it was nice they agreed to our request to be able to publish these editions. But then COVID-19 came along and messed with their scheduling, and unfortunately that pushes our edition back as well.

Yep it is, but we're at the whim of S&S here. And COVID threw a wrench into everyone's schedules including theirs.

When I asked CD about the trade edition, they told me that their limited edition would be published when the trade edition is published, per the agreement with S&S. My guess is that without that agreement, S&S wouldn't have agreed to the deal.

At this point, so many years beyond the announcement, I think the odds of this one ever actually seeing the light of day are slim, which is really too bad, as nothing from CD would excite me more than a new Norman Partridge novel. I do hope all is well with Norm, and whatever creative or personal issues that have plagued this release resolve for him someday. I had the pleasure of meeting him way back in 2001, at the peak of his popularity, and he seemed like a great guy...it's really too bad that whatever issues of creative blockage he's battled over the last decade (or more?) has ultimately prevented him from becoming one of the genre's Big Names. He certainly had/has the right stuff.

I have only cancelled one CD title, signature sheets lost again HAHAHA!!
Please, please tell me you're not referring to STRANGE WEATHER.

I could and probably will cancel I know that. But it’s just the point of the way this was handled is what I’m saying. Also I don’t think the contracts were signed around the same time. CD announced this title and then many months later sold the trade edition rights to S an S. I guess my overall point is I don’t think it’s right to take orders for something and then to just sell the rights to another publisher later on and make your customers wait on when they give the green light to publish. Like I said before CD could have this book finished by end of the year and Have to sit on it for another 12 months because S and S says so. That’s crazy to me and not fair to the ppl who placed orders for this.

again if I’m wrong about the terms of the agreement I fully apologize. I’m basing this off of what I’ve seen and read. CD has never really come out and said what is actually going on.

Is it common for a publisher to announce a title and take orders for that title, tell the customers of a release date for that title then to sell the rights to another publisher and have The new publisher determine the release date for it? As a customer I kind of feel like I’m being jerked around here. I know CD is still doing the AE and limited but if I were to have known that the rights were being sold and the publication date was going to be delayed for over 2 years I would have never bought this book. I mean let’s assume you guys are close to having this book finished, I don’t know if you are but if you are , what happens you just have to sit on it and wait for another year before you can release it? That’s just insane to me you would agree to that. When I say you I mean whoever is making the decisions
You can always cancel your order. CD is very good about that. My guess is that both contracts were signed around the same ttime and CD is a small press and S and S are the big dogs so they run the show. Also remember 2020 hasn't been the greatest of years.Even the major publishers have had to delay books due to printers shutting down for months and paper shortages.

I was told a year ago that they would be released together, so yes, the CD editions will be delayed as well.

Gallery (Simon & Schuster) is calling the shots regarding the release schedule.

I'm assuming the limited and artist editions from CD will be delayed until then as well.
That would be my guess, but I really don't know for sure.
