Ok well there are a few teasers until i get the internet at my new place thursday :)

Firstly i thought i might share a few pics of some of the original artwork that i own. I got in touch with Glenn Chadbourne around 2 years ago and have had him work his magic on quite a few projects for me over that time. Firstly is a picture of me and my girlfriend that i sent to him and then is the painting (with a Dark Tower theme).

Another artist who i have become friends with is Vincent Chong ... in fact here is me with his Best Artist award at last years Fantasy Con ...

Part of a very drunken night around Nottingham for my birthday. Anyway during the day we got talking and i asked if he would be willing to take a private comision of me and my girlfriend, now he has never done anything like this before because he's so busy with book covers and internal artwork ... and this is what he came up with ...

Thanks ... Don Maitz is another of my favourite artists and he has come up with some GREAT Stephen King Artwork. One piece was specially commissioned for Centipede Press' artbook Knowing Darkness and was his take on Duma Key one of my favourite books. He released a very limited number of prints of the painting, so limited that he never did a full print run and the few that are arround are 'artist proofs'. Here is mine with a small remarque at the bottom, it now takes pride of place in the livingroom....

When CD offered these remarqued Full Dark No Stars, I decided against ordering.
I liked the Secretary of Dreams books quite a bit, but not enough to go for a Chadbourne original.

Boy, how could I have been so stupid!!!!!

Ok well i didn't really have time to take any real photos last night but to give a taste i took a quick pic of 2 bookcases, the 1st contains all King, and the second James Herbert the top few shelves with Ray Bradbury, a few Centipede Press books and Peter Straub. The other shelves contain CD and Sub Press books. Deatailed pics coming this weekend and of the other bookcase & shelves/artwork.

As I said....drooling time's here.
I see some wonderful items, Tom, including some amazing slipcases.
(btw, I ordered one of those Dolso Night Shift cases, realised the order was not about a limited book-edition, but about a limited slipcase edition and right away cancelled my order. Now I just don't know if I did the right thing...).
I do have a question I hope you can answer. Although I own numerous editions of certain books, they're all different editions. Why collect many copies of the same editon, like your four Dark Tower VII copies? I know more people do this, but I just can't figure out why.

Ok! Shh - no marriage mentions!!! LOL

I met Vincent recently at WHC and he was very nice. I really like his art and hopefully can work with him in the future. Never met Glenn but heard he is a very nice guy as well.

That's been my favorite thing about publishing Dark Discoveries is being able to work with or make friends with many of the authors and artists i've admired over the years. Allen Koszowski is a great guy and has been a pleasure to work with and Alan Clark is a good friend as well. Jill Bauman is awesome too. I've gotten to meet, work with and in a number of cases become friends with Ray Bradbury, Joe Lansdale, George Clayton Johnson, Dennis Etchison, John Skipp, Jack Ketchum (Dallas), Liz Engstrom, Beth Massie, J.F. Gonzalez, John Everson, Tim Lebbon, Simon Clark, Ramsey Campbell, Wilum Pugmire, Bernie Wrightson, Earl Hamner, Gary Braunbeck, John Shirley and so many others. Even Bill Nolan is an honorary uncle for my kids.

Great collection too! Many books from other countries you don't always see.

An author who i have really got into in the past few months is James Herbert and i'm so glad that i have done. His books are bloody good reads and i can't encourage people enough to give them a try!
His first novel way that was published way back in 1974 ( a few months before Mr King) and there were only 1,000 books produced. I was very lucky to find this copy because there are less than a handfull for sale on the internet and at 5 times the price that i paid for mine. its another library copy but i love it!
http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/zz116/tito_villa/Books/Photo192.jpg
The second book that James Herbert had published just a year later is the infamous 'The Fog'. Its grusome deaths & sexual references gave it a name and in some places was banned. But Stephen King & especially Ramsey Campell have campaigned to have it recognised as the word of genius that it is. I feel very lucky to own this copy because depite being over 35 years old it is in mint condition and was signed at last years World Horror Con in Brighton.

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/zz116/tito_villa/Books/Photo196.jpg
His 3rd book came out in 1976 and was another hit. A plane chashes in a quaint english village and one man survives without a scratch to his body and with no memory as to his survival and to why the plane crashed. I mean he should do because he was the co-pilot and feel bad to have lived, buit is it just that, there is another feeling deep down that other forces are at play, darker forces. Thus off he goes in search of answers and it leads to a great read. Here is a near fine 1st edition.

Unfortunately i am missing copies of 'Fluke' & 'Lair' but i don't mind waiting to snag copies.
So next is a novel called 'The Spear' which was the first James Herbert book i read. A story of a Nazi occult trying to take over the world, what more do you want. It's cleverly done and never ending action from start to fiction.
The book on the left is a 1st edition and the one on the right is a signed copy but with a faded spine. I have been in contact with 'Frank' who the book was made out to and he has provided a photocopy of a letter that Mr Herbert sent back when he signed the book.

http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/zz116/tito_villa/Books/Photo202.jpg
Next is a book titled 'The Dark'. What are most people scared of? Yes you guessed it, the answer is the dark. Its in our instincts to fear things we can't see, a primevil fear that has been with the human race since its beginning. Herbert takes that fear to a spectacular new level which results in deaths worse than those that occured in 'The Fog'. Simply one of the best books i have ever read and one i need to aquire in fine condition, but this 1st edition will do for now as i have a Centipede Press version that will be shown later.

Shrine i am yet to read as with the other 1sg editions that will follow but i am trying to get to them as quick as possible because with a sypnosis like this - Alice, a deaf-mute, has a vision of a lady in white who says she is the immaculate conception. Suddenly Alice can speak, hear, and perform miracles. The visitation site becomes a shrine. But Alice is no longer the guileless child overwhelmed by her new saintliness. She has become the agent of something corrupt, a vile force centuries old - i can't wait to read them!
Left is 1st edition & the right is a signed 1st edition again with accompanying letter from 'Frank'.

James Herbert's novel of genocide and germ warfare tackles the unpleasant subject of "what if the Axis had won World War II." However, rather than dwelling on the moral and philosophical aspects of life under such a reign, Herbert throws us right into the story, surrounding us with people of action who cannot take time to mull over the ramifications of this loss but who instead must fight and act. This thriller is a refreshing take on this theme, here presented with a whopping four bonus short stories by Herbert. Each copy is signed by James Herbert. WHAT A BOOK, YOU MUST READ THIS!!!!!!!!!!!

Another author that i feel more people should read is Carlos Ruiz Zafon. An author that my girlfriend introduced to me around 2 years ago and i used as holiday reading for when i visited her in Spain. All of his books were originally written in Spanish (which makes sense as he is Spanish) and in the last 10 years been translated into English and become worldwide hits.

Fantastic!

I checked out those brodart covers by the way. Not sure how they work though. Do you cut them to fit the book? And then what? Do they stick to the inside or are they just like a folder cover that slides on?

This is what i do, not sure if there is a correct way or not lol the covers come with the paper backing and the plastic/ascetate (not quite sure of the technical name) on the other. I face the thing paper side up on a flat surface and then slip the dustjacket in between with the artwork faced down. Carefully slide the dustjacket up as far as it will go and then fold over the cover sealing the dustjacket in place. If there is an excess of cover that has been folded over or at the sides then i carefully trim them with scissors and place the whole thing back on the book.
It may take you a few times to perfect the technique of placing a cover on the dustjackets but i think its well worth it in the end. Also remember to be patient, in most books most of the value is in the dustjacket!

Just a quick question, is The Midnight Palace a sequel to The Prince of the Mist? Saw the Midnight Palace on sale in HB, and it looked really nice. Are they really YA, like the 1st Harry Potter book or a bit more serious?

No, 'The Midnight Palace' & 'The Pince of mist' are stand alone stories. I would say they are more serious than the 1st Happy Potter but not as dark as the later ones. I still enjoyed reading them :)

There are two signatures that are on every sig sheet that I am not sure who's they are. The one's I marked with the letter A may belong to Thomas F. Monteleone. As far as B goes I have no idea, but I have a feeling it's either Bev Vincent or Paul Guran as along with Thomas F. Do you have a favorite book in your collection? (and I don't mean what book do you like best story wise, just what book do you like best publication wise, as in this is the coolest edition I have because...).

I whitled them down to a top 7 and then if i really had to choose one it would be my 1st edition 'The Gunslinger', with the book being signed by Michael Whelan, also the book & dustjacket in mint condition then housed in a custom wooden traycase.

But you were mean making me choose between that and its contenders - Night Shift US 1st in Limited Edition wooden case, Signed 1st US 'The Stand' & wooden slipcase, UK Carrie 1st, 'Duma Key' signed, remarqued and in a slipcase, '20th Century Ghosts' Slipcased S/L with remarque & finally a mint signed 'The Fog'

Original Artwork by Erin Wells for IT before being framed.

Clown with Balloons
Pencil on vellum - 7.5" x 10.5"
Matted/backed

A colorized version of this drawing appears only in the Signed/Limited Edition of the 25th Anniversary Special Edition of Stephen King's IT, published by Cemetery Dance (2011). For the signature sheet i think.

Yeah its not perfect, but the camera didn't show its good side and its not really that bad. I really wanted the copy of 'Wizard and Glass' which would be around 150 if not more on its own, so i think of the other two books as a bonus :)
