I know this has nothing to do with books but since Dan started a thread, I might as well. Where are you guys going? Hey and Frik51 if you're reading this a great second hand bookstore chain is Half-Price Bookstores, check out their site for locations: hpb.com

I'm going on vacation three times but I am really excited to go to Bangor, Maine for a Stephen King tour with my father and Stu Tinker who runs the tours. Check out the site: sk-tours.com

Bangor - a bit out of the way (depending on your location of course) but worth a visit, if only to be standing in front of that gorgeous gate.....
I've been there twice myself, met Stu when he was still running Betts Bookstore, but never took The Tour.
Enjoy!

As I said somewhere else, I hope to be visiting my last remaining three US states: Kansas, Oklahoma and North Dakota.
Afther that, I'll have to set myself another goal.

Frik,
In those three states you should try to go to a second hand bookstore chain called: Half Priced Books, I go to one next to my house a lot, great selection of Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Anne Rice, so much more genres' and authors'. I hope you get to check one of the stores out, hope I'm helping :)

Yes, you definitely are! Helping, I mean.
I'll be on the lookout for Half Price Books!

Do you have certain places or things that you are going to see?

That is cool that you will have been to all 50 states; I have only been to 7 or 8! :-)

I'll second the Half Price Books recommendation. I've gotten quite a few books from there, though there have been some there I passed up because of their condition. I tend to be a little picky about the books I buy now, so I won't buy any that are in anything less than like new condition. At the one closest to me out of 3 nearby ones they have had this one same Joe Lansdale hardcover for quite a while now, but the first quarter or third has some VERY noticeable water damage, so not going to buy it even though I want to read it, lol

A few people here came up with some nice suggestions.
Most likely I'll spend all Sunday google-ing some more.

I've been to Maine a number of times and am planning to take a trip up there as soon as possible.

Never been to Bangor, but had a close encounter with Himself at a rest stop.

I'm going on vacation from work, but I'm not going anywhere. just staying home. A SK tour would be really cool.

I'm going for my first time in August. Have fun, I wonder if King is doing a signing for his new book in November??

I'm going to the 311 Pow Wow Festival down in Florida the first weekend in August. And then I might make a weekend trip back down at the end of the month to visit family.

We're heading to Lake Tahoe this summer, and I plan to rent a bike and do the 72-mile ride around the lake. The scenery is so amazing there I don't want to spend any daylight hours inside if I can help it. I'll do a day hike on the Tahoe Rim Trail, we're going to tour Vikingsholm and the Thunderbird Lodge, probably hit the water park in Reno and generally stay busy!

I will definitely be going on vacation now late in July I believe, just going a few hours north of where I am in MN though, and spending a week at a cabin on the lake with my fiancee and a bunch of her family from her mom's side. Went last year and had a great time so will surely be good again, and I will definitely have books and movies along to enjoy, especially in the event of rain.

Imagine: enjoying a great US vacation and here I am, in some Dallas motel trying to keep up with this forum's new posts.....

Hope to do this from time to time the next couple of weeks.

I'm really hoping I can get away this summer, take another trip to Mackinaw City, maybe. Possibly go to the island. Kick back on the shores of the Great Lakes.

Nearing the end...

Roswell, New Mexico.
I don't think the truth is out there...

I met a woman in Roswell back in 2002 who promised me the truth, but she was arrested just before the appointed meeting time...

If she was the redhead that sits at the end of the bar, then "truth" was a euphemism, and you're probably better off.

Frik! You're exactly 1.5 hours away from me! Did you check out the museum? I've only been once, a few years ago, but it's kind of a neat little piece of history no matter what you believe in. Also, there is nothing else to do in Roswell!

It's great reading about all these folks checking out my hometown of Bangor Maine! I actually grew up about 20 minutes outside of Bangor, but most of my family live in the Bangor /Brewer area. Yep, just drive down West Broadway St. and there's HIS house! lol. Check out the library too, it has a whole wing in the Steve and Tabby name! Downtown Bangor where they filmed The Hitchhiker from Creepshow 2, Camden-Thinner, and the Pet Sematery houses! Going for a visit in August for almost three weeks, been three years, cant wait!!! Maybe I'll see some of you!
Hope everyone has a great summer vacation whatever you do!!

Yes! That's about the only thing we did in Roswell, visit the UFO museum.
I usually skip museums, but not this one. True, an anuaual piece of history - whatever one believes.
And, although I love the X-files, especially the alien story thread, I'm not a believer in visitors-from-outer-space.

Of course, before flying home next week, I'm going to see Cowboys and Aliens...

How was your vacation?

We had an absolutely wonderful time - 8000 miles, 12 states, in 4.5 glorious weeks: Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and back to Texas.

One of our best road-trips ever.

Terrific!!! Other than the UFO Museum in Roswell, what other sights did you take in?

Off the top of my head, in no particular order:

The Dakota Black Hills, plus of course, Mount Rushmore (both Hitchcock and Dan Simmons made excellent use of this landmark); Badlands National Park; Grand Canyon National Park; Yellowstone National Park; Tombstone (Arizona); Monument Valley; Nederland (Colorado) - just had to go there, as I live in Nederland...; Rocky Mountains National Park; Johnson Space Center (Houston); San Antonio -The Alamo- Texas; The Royal Gorge Bridge(Colorado) ; Saguaro National Park (New Mexico).....

Again, the Utah/Arizona areas were far and away my favorites. I love the rock formations, the colors, the alieness of the landscape...Monument Valley - absolutelu gorgeous!

Three 'holidays' planned for next year
Skiing in the French Alps with the family, hopefully better snow than last season.

It's one of the big birthdays for me next year, so off to Iceland to hopefully see the Aurora Borealis (something I've always wanted to see)

And as there is no Glastonbury festival in 2012 (I do count those 5 days in a tent as a holiday each year), I shall be going to the Latitude festival in July, the final day of which is my actual birthday, so that should be quite some weekend!

Just booked my cabin on the 311 Caribbean Cruise in May. It's 2 days after my bday and lands on my cabinmates.
