Pulled the trigger on the slipcased set SK authorized when DTIII was released: DTI (third print trade), DTII (2nd print trade), adn DTIII (first print trade)--I also DTII (first print trade) signed by Hale coming from Grant.

I hope CD doesn't offer something really awesome next week...ok, I know they will, but something I'm willing to hold off on.

Wow that's nice Squire. Did you ever get the set Donald M. Grant is offering? The 3 books for about $170 or so? It's really nice and again, I can't believe they're not sold out...

I remember buying that set when it first came out in 1998 from Waldenbooks. Cost then was $99, a real bargain even then.

Three good ones! Falling Angel, Centipede Press, Savage Tales of Solomon Kane, Wandering Star, Magician Out of Manchuria, Donald Grant. The Kane completes my Wandering Star set. What a fantastic book, with Extras. Falling Angel, an all time favorite. And finally Charles Finney, the Old China Hand, 15th Inf Regiment. Now, I'm pretty much broke for awhile. HAHAHA!! Really good finds though.

I had almost forgotten I had this. It's a special charity book issued by Waterstone's, I think back in 2009. It contains a number of VERY short stories by various authors, including J.K.Rowling and Neil Gaiman, all written in the authors' handwriting, in what approximates a post card size and card stock. The J.K.Rowling story is a "prequel" to the HP series, featuring James Potter (Harry's father) and Sirius Black, back when they were teenagers. I'd estimate its length at about 1000 words.

Nope, not in the market for the Betts copy Squire :D

Your copy will be superior for at least three reasons:

1) yours is flat signed as opposed to the signed to someone;
2) yours is a US 1st/1st rather than a 2nd print;
3) your copy will, knowing David at Betts, in far better shape than mine :)

Tito_Villa
03-11-2012, 11:09 AM
That is where we have to differ :) i love the personal acpect of a dedicated signed book, it also gives a lot more clues to the signature validity too. I can remember a while back i saw a book on ebay that was dedicated, and i am pretty sure that the signature was legit but someone had written in the dedication afterwards, my question is why would you do that?

Grant Wootton
03-11-2012, 05:07 PM
Lord knows Tom, seems like sacrilege to me. I'm not against dedicated books per se, just wish that there were a whole bunch of Grant's out there that would get SK to dedicate copies of all the 1st editions then sell them to me - problem solved :D

Subteranean Press grab bag! A great signed copy of Angel's Game. A couple of nice Bradbury's, A Pleasure to Burn. A slip cased copy of Zodiac, Neal Stepenson, Up the bright River, Philip Jose Farmer, The Affair of the Chalk Cliffs, Blaylock. Most are signed, one is a scratch and dent, no big deal. Nothing that filled a crying need, but Overall a nice selction. Have a great week!

Nice haul Mike! I'm interested in the Zodiac book/slipcase. Did you have the same trouble with gettting it in and out as I did? I'm curious...
No problems, I'm checking it again, even as we speak. And no issues. Sorry you got a bad one.

Angel's game was a very good novel, but not GREAT like the first book, Shadow of the Wind, which is a MUST read regardless of what you normally read. It's simply brilliant very very well written book.
I agree! Almost as good as Club Dumas!!

discount wasn't because of damage when David received the book though was it?

srboone
03-21-2012, 10:02 PM
No. There was 1/2 in. closed tear on cover, but in Fine/Very good + condition. And the fact that it was flat signed rather than inscribed was a big bonus. Most of the signings King did in his early years were insciptions.

03-21-2012, 10:08 PM

The new consignment he posted on monday has alot of reasonably priced inscriptions. Everyone prefers a flatsign of course but for those prices i'd go for it...If I was currently spending money but I AM NOT!

Actually I may spend up to but no more than $100 on a bookcase on Saturday. Until this year Sydney had the only all girls school east of Montreal but the building and Convent were owned by the church. The church of course decided to sell because of financial issues and the school board would not buy the old ass building. So everything is being sold including some VERY old beautiful bookcases some with glass doors. I am hoping they are desperate and selling cheap because they could actually make a fortune on this antique furniture if they wanted to. But if I can get one for under $100 I most certainly will, although I would just LOVE to buy ALL of them regardless of price. Some things are just not possible though but I intend to make an attempt at one of them.

srboone
03-21-2012, 10:39 PM
Good luck on that, Teri. I'm shoppoing around for a bookcase with glass doors on it myself.

I can't believe how long shipping takes with Easton. Glad you posted that as I was getting concerned. I used to be on one of their signed programs so a book just showed up every 6 weeks or so and I never paid attention to how long shipping took. But I ordered American Gods and two weeks ago and a signed Martian Chronicals almost a month ago...still waiting for arrival. Great books, horrible shipping.

srboone
03-27-2012, 05:20 AM
I got my Martain Chronicles a couple months ago and I got my shipping notice for American Gods on Friday, so it will be awhile before I get it. They sent me the wrong reader's choice book and I had to send it back. Took 3 weeks to get here, but the return label they sent me was for media mail which means they'll get it returned in less than a week! Still, I love their books....

Don't waste your time with "Christopher Walken reads GTFTS"--a bad paraody of CW's voice"

But check out Walken's classic "Three Little Pigs"

The Christopher walken reading is done by an impressionist. It would be cool if he were to read it though.

EDIT: I thought you were talking about this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kH9k8t-d79k) not some random person on youtube. If you watch this skip ahead to the 45 second mark. He only does a part of it buts it's a good impression.

Has anyone here read The Scar by Mieville? If so how is it? I'm looking at picking up a copy but want to make sure it's worth it.

Not yet, I've only read Kraken and Embassytown; I've got a lot of his stuff to catch up on myself.

Great finds, Tom! I really like the prelim art! (one of my favorite pieces from the book.)
